Cauterets has a truly spectacular look
Although at first it seemed that almost no ski resort in the French Pyrenees was going to open these days of early December, finally the snow that has been falling, and especially the low temperatures, have encouraged a handful of them to get going.
The first was Porté-Puymorens which, as scheduled, opened on November 25. Although after the weekend it closed again, this Wednesday it started up again with 2 green trails. Its companion in the Eastern Pyrenees, Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000 opened the season on Tuesday, and has now expanded its offer to 15 runs and a thickness of 40 cm.
For its part, Les Angles also announced yesterday that it opened its season with 15 kilometers of slopes spread over seven slopes, 2 of them initiation, and the rest green, except the blue Daim. And Cambre D'Aze has opened today a couple of trails in a testimonial way.
Another that has announced its opening is Piau-Engaly, already in the Hautes-Pyrénées. They were expecting a snowfall of 5 to 10 centimeters, but finally they were pleasantly surprised that it was twice as much. So this Wednesday they have opened partially with its initiation area and the Campbieilh chairlift, then in the afternoon the TSD of the Pic de Piau started to turn.
They open for the Spanish, because in France these days are working days, but the bookings in Bielsa and in the station itself, in addition to the total thickness of up to 40 cm with last night's snowfall, has encouraged to get going. On Sunday they will evaluate whether to stay open or close and wait until the following weekend.
Another that has announced that it will be open from Friday, December 8, is Cauterets. It has not snowed as much as Piau-Engaly, but enough to get going and welcome the Spaniards who are staying in the villages these days waiting for the bell to ring by surprise. Then they will close again until the following Friday.
Who is also thinking about it is Peyragudes and Sant Lary, while Luz Ardiden was going to make a decision this Wednesday afternoon, but they have not given any signs of any kind.
Today's photos in Cauterets promise a great appetizer for this Friday.
