In an interview on Canal Sur Television, the Minister of Development, Rocio Diaz, said that now is studying what decisions to take after the snowfall recorded at Easter that "have come very well" and have favored that at this time that of Granada is one of the only stations open in southern Europe.

The Junta de Andalucía is considering the proposal of the businessmen to extend the ski season in Sierra Nevada until May. The Councilor of Development, Rocío Díaz, has indicated that they are analyzing this option and will make decisions week by week depending on the snow conditions and the state of the slopes.

The entrepreneurs operating at the resort have requested that it remain open until at least May 5, in contrast to the originally announced date, which was April 28. Currently, the resort has a skiable area of 82 kilometres and 97 slopes available.

It is important to note that this would not be a real extension, since in 2013, the Andalusian Parliament decided that the ski seasons at the Granada resort would last until May, provided there were no impediments such as lack of snow. In the words of the president of the business association, Ordoño Vázquez, they would not be requesting something out of the established.

Recent snowfall over Easter has benefited the resort, making it one of the only ski resorts open in southern Europe at the moment. Even if it closes on April 28, it will still be the last in Spain to do so.

From this Tuesday, April 9, traffic interruptions are expected on the access road to the ski resort of Sierra Nevada (A-395) due to road safety works on the slope. These works are aimed at ensuring the stability of the terrain after the recent landWater Water Slides that occurred near kilometre 22.

The Territorial Delegation of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing has previously informed these closures to all those involved, including Cetursa-Sierra Nevada, the Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Granada Area, local businessmen, the Civil Guard and the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT).
