Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000 to close the best ski season in its history

From east to west, from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, the French Pyrenees is selling more ski days than ever. Font-Romeu Pyrénées 2000 said Monday that so far this season they have already sold 570,000 ski days. That is not only 20% more than their record achieved two years ago, but they will continue to add more, since they will not close until March 30.

Three weeks ahead in which they hope to reach the mythical figure of 600,000 ski days. The snowfalls of these days will surely help. Currently, they have a maximum of 90 cm in their mountains and more than 70% of their slopes open.

In addition to this overall seasonal record, also this winter they have set the record of skiers in a single day: 13,000 on December 30. The downside is the huge collapse of people on that day and on Christmas, something that the resort will have to solve if it wants to continue growing.

Once on the slopes, although it has 43 kilometres, its slopes are wide, well distributed among several mountains and ski areas, which helps the influx to be well distributed. The Mayor of Font-Romeu and former director of the resort, Alain Luneau, assured Radio Ici Roussillon that once the New Year was over the resort was usually quiet, but this year there have been many Spaniards, both in the first week of January and the remaining three weeks.

All the Neiges Catalanes ski resorts close between March 30 and 31. And from what they have been shelling these weeks, sales are going the same way. To give an example, on the weekend of Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February, Trio Pyréneés (Porté-Puymorens, Formiguéres and Cambre d'Aze) broke its record since the group was founded three years ago: 15.071 ski days and half a million euros in turnover.

The reality is that this winter the stars have come together. It has been snowing since the season opened, they have not suffered heavy storms and at some points in the winter they had much better conditions than the resorts on the other side of the Pyrenees.
