The ski resort of Sierra Nevada returns to three metres of snow

Sierra Nevada has offered today, after recording a week-long cycle of snowfall, the best skiing offer of the season, which, moreover, will increase in the coming days as they are conditioned, new slopes, unpublished this winter season.

During the day, the resort, which recorded 2 metres of new snow in the upper half of the ski area (where already accumulate up to 3 metres in the Laguna), has been opening today progressively slopes and lifts to reach 74 skiable kilometres.

The Laguna de las Yeguas area has been closed due to extreme avalanche risk (5/5), and once it has been secured by Sierra Nevada technicians, nine slopes will be opened tomorrow (Dorada, Puerta Laguna, Trucha, Cuesta artesillas, Olímpica, Los bancos, Collado alto, Carril del collado and Collado laguna) in addition to Lagunillos partially. Thus, the forecast for this Sunday is already 90 skiable kilometres.

It has been three years since three metres of snow. It was in the month of April 2019 when this maximum was reached. One season, but in the month of March, 400 cm were reached until the end of April. To reach six metres, we should also go to the month of March 2013. Although it is undoubtedly 2011 when the most epic snowfalls of the last 15 years were recorded, since from February 20 to April 2 it remained at six metres*.

The negative part has been the delays in the access road to the ski resort from Granada. From first thing in the morning the traffic has been dense, although it has not come to cut the circulation. This Saturday there have been 12,600 days of skiing, to which must be added 1,400 users in the activities for non-skiers. And to these, those who have come to have fun with the snow on their own.
