4 A weekend to remember in the Alps

There are weekends that you will remember for a lifetime. Some you'll remember for its huge snowfall, others for an epic descent... and then there are those weekends that just have it all. Today we want to tell you about our adventure in the French Alps, specifically in Val d'Isère and Tignes, two of the most emblematic ski areas in the French Alps.

In addition, we coincided with a World Cup event, so the atmosphere could not have been more epic.

Day 1: World Cup and cross-country skiing

As we arrived on Friday evening, we were already feeling the energy and excitement that only comes during a competition weekend. On Saturday, very early, with the sky slightly overcast and the thermometer hovering around -7 °C, we were welcomed as we prepared to enjoy the first round of the competition.

If you have never experienced a World Cup race, imagine a town completely devoted to skiing: flags, music and a speaker who never stops encouraging people. An incredible atmosphere!

Between the first and second round (which didn't start until 1pm) we took the opportunity to go ski touring in the valley. With the recent snowfall, the powder snow was irresistible.. We put on our skins and off we went! What a pleasure to be able to get away from the slopes and enjoy those idyllic corners that can only be reached with mountain skis. A couple of turns between trees and virgin snow, and we were back with adrenaline pumping to watch the second round of the competition, in which Joan Verdú came seventh, despite having such great names ahead of him as Marco Odermatt, Lucas Piñeiro and Henrik Kristoffersen.

In the afternoon, we strolled around Val d'Isère, a village that looks like something out of a Christmas movie: snowy streets, lights everywhere and luxury brand stores on every corner. For dinner, we had fondue savoyarde and raclette , two typical dishes of the French Alps that made us forget about the cold outside and left us feeling very satisfied.

Day 2: Fresh snow and party at La Folie Douce

The day dawns and it's still snowing. Yes, exactly what we want when we want powder snow for a good off-piste. We take advantage of the day to discover the Val d'Isère area, which together with Tignes offers more than 300 km of slopes and 90 lifts. It is a pioneering place in skiing: ski tests were already held here in 1930 and the resort has an impeccable reputation thanks to the quality of the snow and its alpine charm.

After several hours of squeezing the ski lifts and with our legs already begging for mercy, we head towards La Folie Douce , the most famous après-ski in the area. At 2,400 metres above sea level, right at the La Daille cable car , there is a constant show of music and dancing under the open sky, surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It's one of those parties that starts mid-morning and lasts until we run out of energy (or until the ski lifts close!).

Day 3: Tignes and the Grand Motte: in the heart of the Alps

Third day, it was Tignes' turn, where the summit of La Grand Motte (3,748 m) awaited us, the highest point in the entire ski area. The day dawned with a blue sky that gave us spectacular visibility. Very early we took the underground cable car that took us to the base of the Grand Motte glacier and, from there, we took the cable car that left us almost at the top. The views were epic : we could see Mont Blanc and a whole sea of incredible mountains that stretched beyond the horizon.

The Grand Motte area is a glacier with wide, long slopes and a significant gradient.. It is one of those skiing experiences that you don't easily forget. We stopped for lunch at the Panoramic restaurant, where we toasted with a good beer with the Alps in the background and the feeling of being in a privileged place.

At the end of the day, we stroll through the village of Tignes, easily recognisable by its lake (visible from any point in the resort). The wide range of shops, bars and restaurants also make it an ideal place to relax after skiing.

A weekend to remember in the Alps

Coming home after a weekend like this always leaves you feeling recharged (and wanting to get back as soon as possible). Val d'Isère and Tignes have given us three days of powder snow , endless pistes and a unique atmosphere thanks to the World Cup.

If you're thinking of a ski holiday, don't hesitate: Val d'Isère and Tignes have everything to make your holiday an unforgettable experience. From the most demanding skiing to the craziest après-ski, all crowned by charming villages and mountain cuisine that comforts both body and soul.

Book your snowy holiday with Esquiades.com and enjoy everything this alpine paradise has to offer. Set a date and start counting the days until you hit the slopes again!
