La Plagne launches this summer the world's first "minimalist" gondola lift without walls or glass

Lift holidays in ski resorts are increasingly diversifying into concepts where tourists who only come to enjoy the snow and the scenery, can also live an experience. This is something that we began to see years ago with the famous Titilis Rotair, the gondola that turns on itself so that no passenger misses any detail of the surrounding mountains.

In Zermatt they have just inaugurated the Alpine Crossing, a system of interconnected gondolas that allows you to go from Italy to Switzerland or vice versa, even with your luggage on your back. The cabins are full of details, are ultra-comfortable and are looking for a premium customer willing to pay more than 200 euros to get on.

In La Plagne (France) they have jumped on the bandwagon of this type of experience for tourists, but with a totally different concept to that of Zermatt. And, as they have presented at Mountain Planet 2024, which is being held these days in Grenoble, their cabin has nothing.

The Aerolive, as this cabin has been baptized, has dispensed with everything. Even the windows! The idea is that the tourist can feel the mountains directly in the face. What makes this different from a chairlift? Well, in this case you are standing up and you can move around to see what is going on behind you as well. Of course, as you can see in the pictures, the passenger is secured with straps.

The holiday lasts half an hour, and getting on one of the two Aerolive cabins (the Acrobate and the Funambule) of the Glaciers gondola lift costs 49 euros. Tickets are already on sale for its release on July 8, in the middle of the summer season.

The company has not specified whether these two cabins will also be available during the ski season, but there is no indication that they might not be. It remains to be seen if these 49 euros will give access to some lifts, or if they will launch a ski holiday that includes the Aerolive experience.
