The project to link the ski resorts of Astún and Candanchú, initially proposes to connect them by a gondola lift, and a second lift, which could be a chairlift or a conveyor belt, to reach the departure terminal.
The solution is controversial because of the inconvenience of having to transfer between two lifts. In addition, the safety for the youngest members of the family that the gondola lift provides is lost on the first stretch, the chairlift. Another option is to install a conveyor belt to bring skiers and snowboarders to the departure terminal, but this means much less transport capacity, in addition to the occupation of part of the terrain and an obstacle in the way.
This Tuesday morning, the President of the Mancomunidad del Valle del Aragón, Álvaro Salesa has assured on Radio Jaca SER Pirineos that they are studying to make a cable car in L. That is to say, starting directly at the base of Candanchú, and after a short stretch, make a 90º turn to continue to the ski resort of Astún.
This is a formula widely used in gondolas in the Alps, and in the Pyrenees we can see in Baqueira Beret. There the lift that leaves from Ruda, has an intermediate stop at 1500 meters, and from there make a small L-turn and continue to the exit terminal at 1,800 meters.
The competition for the drafting of the definitive project has already been put out to tender. There are still many steps to go before the building permit can be obtained, but Álvaro Salesa is hopeful that we will be able to see the first movements this summer.
The companies bidding for the drafting of the project have until the 12th of this month to present their candidacy. 19 days later, on January 31, the envelopes will be opened, and depending on the scores, the award will be made. Only four months ahead for the summer, but INAGA is already studying in parallel the environmental impact study that has been published in the Official Gazette of Aragon (BOA).
