Any ski enthusiast has probably heard of Paradiski, one of the most impressive ski areas in the French Alps and the third-largest ski area in the world.

Today, in Esquiades Spotlight, we are going to discover its features, the best slopes, what to do off-piste and why this winter paradise is ideal for your next snow holiday.

Paradiski, An Impressive Ski Area

The Paradiski Ski Pass gives acces to the linked ski resorts of La Plagne and Les Arcs, offering a total of 425 km of slopes, modern infrastructure and breathtaking scenery. It is an ideal destination for both beginners and experienced skiers.

Located in the heart of the French Alps, specifically in the Tarentaise Valley, two hours by car from the airports of Geneva and Grenoble, are the ski resorts of La Plagne and Les Arcs. They are known for offering high quality skiing for all kinds of skiers.

Together, they form the Paradiski ski area, with more than 425 km of slopes, linked by more than 125 lifts, gondolas and chairlifts. Given its great extension, we can find options for all ages and types of skiers, from green runs and beginners' areas, to spectacular black runs for the most daring.

With altitudes up to 3200 m and more than 70% of the ski area above 2000 metres, snow is guaranteed during most of the ski season.

Les Arcs area

Les Arcs is divided into four main areas: Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950 and Arc 2000, and offers a wide variety of accommodations, from luxury chalets to more economical apartments. In addition, many of the accommodations have excellent wellness facilities, with spas, saunas, Jacuzzis and massages to recharge your batteries after a day of skiing.

Les Arcs has a wide variety of slopes to suit all levels. Beginners can enjoy the extensive forest slopes located on the northwest slope, in the direction of the villages at lower altitudes, as well as easy routes near the Arcabulle chairlift. For carving, the best runs are found under the Le Derby chairlift, while more experienced skiers will find challenges on the steep slopes and moguls around the Aiguille Rouge.

The Best Slopes in Les Arcs

If you're looking for the best slopes to challenge you, you can't miss the Aiguille Rouge, the longest descent in the entire resort from 3226 m to Villaroger in the valley. The upper part is narrow and steep, but the view is spectacular. The lower part widens and becomes flatter, through a forest to Villaroger, at 1200 m altitude.

For adrenaline lovers, the three black runs Lanches, Crêtes and Dou de l'Homme near the Varet cable car offer a real challenge.

Access to Les Arcs

Access to the resort is via the E90 road, the final stretch of which is quite winding and can be complicated in winter. Those looking to save on accommodation can access the resort via the Arc en Ciel funicular in Bourg Saint Maurice, which in just 10 minutes transports visitors from Arc 1600 to the ski area.

Après-Ski in Les Arcs

Après-ski in Les Arcs is modest, with bars, restaurants and terraces in all the villages. Some have small nightclubs, but for a livelier nightlife, the best choice is Bourg Saint Maurice.

La Plagne area

La Plagne is an alpine paradise composed of several small villages such as Belle Plagne, Aime la Plagne or Champagny-en-Vanoise. Its accommodations are mostly ski-in/ski-out, ideal for those looking for comfort.

With more than 60% of green and blue runs, La Plagne is perfect for families and beginner skiers, but also has challenging areas for more experienced skiers. At 3250 metres, the Bellecôte glacier offers quality snow and spectacular views.

The Best Slopes in La Plagne

If you like long descents, the red piste Le Mont de la Guerre with 6 km is an excellent choice. For the more experienced, the black piste Les Étroits stands out for its vertical drop of more than 550 m in only 2 km.

Access to La Plagne

In winter, access to the resort is exclusively through Albertville-Moûtiers. Well-prepared mountain roads lead to the access points, with paved car park options, although many are payable.

Après-Ski in La Plagne

Après-ski in La Plagne captures the Alpine spirit, with restaurants, saunas, spas and pubs. If you're staying in Belle Plagne, don't miss La Tête Inn and Le Saloon.
