After replacing the Belle Etoi chairlift last winter, Deux-Alpes (2 Alpes) continues to modernize its ski lifts.
The company POMA and SATA, which manages the ski lifts of the Isère resort, has presented the new cabins that will equip the Jandri 3S gondola lift, currently under construction, which should be operational by the end of this year.
The new cabins were presented at the Mountain Planes Show in Grenoble.
A total of 53 cabins manufactured at POMA-Sigma's Veyrins-Thuellins facility will be installed on the cables of a lift intended to replace the Jandri Express built in 1985.
A renovation synonymous with more comfort, higher speed and a much smaller number of pylons according to the developer's promises and with an investment of some 135 million euros.
In the words of Fabrice Boutet, CEO of the SATA Group (operator of 2 Alps, Alpe d'Huez and La Grave), his installation is "the largest mountain project in the world.
Its speed should enable the resort's skiers to ski up to three times as far from the glacier (3,200 m) to the foot of the resort (1,650 m)."
With the new Jandri Express it will be possible to climb the glacier in only 17 minutes compared to 40 minutes with the previous cable car.
Between 1,300 and 3,000 skiers will be able to reach the top of the resort in half the time. Each cabin can carry 32 people, 24 seated and 8 standing.
In addition to skiers, walkers, mountain bikers and hikers will be able to enjoy it all year round, because the Jandri is designed to operate during all 4 seasons.
To this end, it will be adapted to summer operation by removing the 10 central people to make room for mountain bikes.
The new cabins may resemble those in the memorable action scenes in "Spectre," the latest James Bond movie.
Full of curves and rounded, the 3S is by design, right down to the people. In its desire to "be a unique mountain space in the world," explains Boutet, SATA called on the expertise of designer Pininfirina, who works, among others, for Ferrari and Porsche.
The 3S will have other advantages for the station, especially in terms of logistics. Some cabins will be able to transport pallets of equipment and products destined for high-altitude restaurants.
Therefore, the use of snowmobiles or snow groomers to supply the upper part of the resort will be limited.
In this more eco-responsible line, the Jandri 2024 version returns an important space to nature. Previously, the gondola lift used seventeen pylons to climb, now seven will suffice. In addition, the project involved 100% French and regional companies from Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie.
This new jewel should open to skiers in December 2024, for the next winter season, although the dismantling of the high-altitude resorts will take place in 2025.
