5 When do the N'PY resorts open?

The N'PY Group is heading into the 2026-2027 ski season with an investment of 31.77 million euros in its resorts in the French Pyrenees. The centerpiece is the new 10-person gondola at Grand Tourmalet, but there are new developments in almost all the ski areas: more artificial snow at Peyragudes, new recreational runs at Piau-Engaly, paragliding on skis at Gourette, and a hotel at 2,620 metres on the Pic du Midi.

The group is heading into the winter with the wind at its back. Its seven resorts recorded a total of 2,127,665 ski days during the 2025-2026 season, 7.72% more than the average of the previous six winters, and revenue for the summer of 2025 and last winter reached 78.39 million euros, 7.5% higher than the previous fiscal year.

Grand Tourmalet Unveils New Gondola in Tournaboup

The largest allocation, 13 million euros, goes to Grand Tourmalet. There, the old four-seat chairlift at Tournaboup is being replaced by a ten-seat gondola that cuts the ascent time by more than half and multiplies transport capacity. The project is rounded out by a reorganization of the base area, more space for beginners, and a covered conveyor belt at La Laquette.

The project is part of the ski area’s commitment to year-round operations. In La Mongie, a four-star hotel with 80 rooms is also under construction and is scheduled to open in late 2028.

More snow in Peyragudes and fun slopes in Piau-Engaly

Peyragudes will add 30 snow cannons in the Agudes and Peyresourde ski areas, which the group estimates will allow it to guarantee artificial snow coverage across 80% of the ski area. The blue Alouette run, which descends from the summit to the base of the Agudes slopes, also features recreational modules to make the descent more fun.

In Piau-Engaly, the goal is to expand the offerings for all types of skiers:

Two recreational runs featuring tunnels, arches, and banked turns.
A boardercross course completely revamped from top to bottom.
A scenic trail with seven rest areas, picnic tables, and informational panels about the nature, history, and life of the Aure Valley.
A new restaurant right by the slopes, Le Toit Gourmand des Pyrénées.

Paragliding in Gourette and improvements in La Pierre Saint-Martin

Gourette is setting up an area for paragliding while wearing skis and will offer introductory tandem flights. In La Pierre Saint-Martin, new snow fences will help accumulate snow on two of its most popular runs, Boulevard des Pyrénées and Myrtilles. Both resorts in Béarn will host the Trophée VTT on Ice, a timed mountain bike downhill race on snow: on January 24 in Gourette and on March 14, 2027, in La Pierre Saint-Martin.

In Cauterets, the restaurant Le Lys offers a different themed experience every weekend, and Le Troquet, located in the village, has been completely renovated.

A hotel at 2,620 metres on the Pic du Midi

The most intriguing new development is at the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. The Hôtellerie des Laquets opened on September 25 at an altitude of 2,620 metres, and can only be reached by taking two consecutive cable cars. It features 16 rooms for 34 guests, a lounge, a bar, a hammam, a sauna, and bistronomic-style cuisine created by a Michelin-starred chef from Toulouse. A concert is also being planned for April 3, 2027, at the summit, with the artist yet to be announced.

Music will also be featured in Luz Ardiden, which will host the second edition of the Luz Winter Fest on February 26 and 27, featuring some twenty artists—including Mosimann—and an expected 12,000 attendees. On December 30, there will also be an immersive light show.

When do the N'PY resorts open?

If snow and weather conditions permit, the group’s first slopes will open in late November:

Luz Ardiden: November 25.
Cauterets: November 27.
Piau-Engaly: December 4.
Peyragudes and Grand Tourmalet: December 5.
Gourette and La Pierre Saint-Martin: early opening on December 5 and full opening starting December 19.
