Masella closes an irregular but satisfactory ski season

1 The season in figures

The Masella ski resort has ended its winter season this Sunday, April 14. Its managers are satisfied with the hotel offer, although the weather has been unfavorable, with little snowfall and mild temperatures. However, skiing conditions have always been guaranteed with 100% of the skiable slope open for almost the entire season.

The ski season began on December 5, on the eve of the Puríssima Bridge, with all the skiable slope open, from the top of the Tosa-2535 m to the Pla de Masella-1600 m, with the basic axes of the resort in operation. And, despite the general lack of snow in all the Pyrenees, Masella offered one of the greatest skiing offers in the Iberian Peninsula during the first festive bridge of the season.

During the Christmas holidays the influx of skiers on the slopes was correct. Later, in January and February, natural snow was scarce, but thanks to the resort's modern snow network, skiing was always guaranteed. The counterpoint to the dry weather is that the sunny days and the mild temperatures, especially at midday, meant that the slopes and terraces of the resort were very busy during all the weekends of the central winter months.

Although the snow has been scarcer this season, there have been epic days of good snowfall in the Masella ski resort.

During this period, the Carnival days at the end of February were especially excellent, when the school holidays (with a 3 to 4 day long weekend) meant that family attendance was very important.

In March , snow was present in Masella, with snowfalls equal to or above the climatic average. The favorable weather conditions meant that the number of skiers on the slopes was very good during the first three weeks of the month.

This year Easter, which has fallen early in the calendar, has been with a correct influx of skiers. In the first month of spring, Masella has received the two most relevant snowfalls of the season; specifically on March 9(45 cm of new snow at 2500 m) and 31(30 cm of new snow at 2500 m), in which the snow was present in all the ski area, with important thicknesses of new snow.

The first of April, Easter Monday, a holiday in Catalonia, started with the best day of the season, with blue sky, calm wind and more than 30 cm of new snow thanks to the snowfall of the day before. These good conditions have had continuity during the rest of the week, although the thermal softness has made that the final stretch of the season the snow was already very transformed.

And the funny anecdote at the end of the season was the swimsuit descent organized by the skiers themselves on the last day of the season.

Finally, the night skiing season opened on Thursday, December 21, and ended on Saturday, March 2, opening with all the nights planned for this period. The degree of satisfaction of the skiers who ski at night translates into a good acceptance of the product, which corroborates that Masella's evening skiing is a well-consolidated product.

A swimsuit descent has bid farewell to the ski season in Masella.

The season in figures

- Opening date: December 5, 2023.
- Closing date: April 14, 2024.

Therefore, the entire vertical drop has been open from December 5 to April 7.

Spring-summer tourism season

Masella continues to be active this spring and summer with multiple activities organized from the Alp Hotel, the Masella 1600 m Apartments and the Abrigall Hostel, the ski and mountain resort's accommodation directly on the slopes, which are the perfect base camp for a mountain and a region with multiple sporting, leisure and cultural possibilities. To these proposals are added the Bar-Restaurant of Coma Oriola.

From now on, Masella is working to offer you a better season 2024-25, with the intention of opening the first day of November that the snow conditions allow it,

"It only remains for us to thank all the Media for their attention during these last months and, especially, we want to thank the loyalty of skiers, ski clubs and sponsors who have made this season possible."
