Alpe d'Huez and Les 2 Alpes open their ski season this Saturday

The squall that hit Europe last week left abundant snowfall from the United Kingdom to the far east of the continent. In theAlps many resorts welcomed the snow with gusto, some, very few, decided to bring forward the start of the winter season, and there are those that have kept to their schedule but opened in very good conditions.

Skiing in the Alps

After the squall came more stable and dry days that have allowed the slopes to work well. While in some countries in the Alps and Scandinavia some resorts had already been operating for days, in France it was not until last weekend that the starting signal was given.Le Markstein opened early on Friday, while Tignes and Val Thorens opened on Saturday with snow thicknesses of up to 1 meter.

Now it is the turn of Les 2 Alpes and Alpe d'Huez, which although neighbors, are still not connected despite the fact that a project was put on the table. However, it seems that they are united in their snow parts, since both have announced that for this Saturday 30/11 they will start up 30% of their ski area. And that the forecast is to have practically 100% of everything available for the weeks of Christmas.

In Les 2 Alpes they will launch the lifts Jandri, Belle Etoile and Diable with which you can access the highest part of the ski resort. This way you will be able to ski from 3,600 to 2,600 metres of altitude for the first day.

For the time being, from 2,600 to 2,000 metres, the slopes will remain closed, so the return home will be by the Jandri Express, which descends to 1,600 metres.

Alpe d'Huez is also getting underway with slopes also in its 'satellite' resorts of Oz 3300 and Vaujany. In total 18 lifts for 16 slopes divided into 6 green, 4 blue, 4 red and 2 black. They hope to have everything open for the month of December.

Other ski resorts opening this weekend in France are Chamrousse, La Rosière, Tignes, Montgenèvre and Val d'Isère.
