Pal Arinsal joins the candidacy for the Andorra 2027 Alpine Ski World Championships. The La Massana resort will host the qualifying races prior to the world championships if the Principality is the chosen venue.
This was explained this morning by the general director of the project, David Hidalgo, who detailed that the appropriate layout to receive the qualifying races for Slalom, Giant and Parallel is the Joan Carchat stadium as well as the Font Roja track for training.
The sports action is decentralized from the usual scenarios of the World Cup, Avet and Àliga slopes and will coexist with the previous tests on the slopes of the Coll de la Botella area. The highest representative of the project has stressed that the massanenca resort will have a specialized technical team as organizer of the races.
Josep Marticella and David Hidalgo during the presentation
For his part, the general director of Pal Arinsal, Josep Marticella, stated that it is "a great honor to be part of an event of this dimension". It is the culmination of many years of work and many efforts made in high-level events in other sports.”
Marticella explained that the Joan Carchat stadium and the Font Roja track meet the technical requirements of the FIS to host the qualifying rounds with a North East orientation and the necessary slope. In this sense, he commented that to celebrate the milestone it will be necessary to invest in improving the snow network and installing fiber optics, among others.
In turn, the mayor of La Massana, Olga Molné, has appraised the new alliance with satisfaction, "a country project with a great international projection for Andorra that, moreover, will have a positive effect on the parish since a part of the family sports will be housed in La Massana and, therefore, will have a direct impact on the business fabric”.
The mayor of Canillo, Francesc Camp, recalled that the Andorra 2027 bid is "a country project, a differential feature to convince the members of the FIS that they will determine their chosen venue. The event will have two sports venues, in Canillo and the Massana, and the most playful action will move to the capital."
The Technical Office of the Andorra 2027 bid has worked on a calendar proposal in which the event would take place from February 1 to 14 with an opening ceremony on February 1 and a closing ceremony on February 14.
The races of the event would be held in the usual venues of the World Cups:
The Avet track in Soldeu, the two techniques: Slalom and Giant,
The Àliga track in El Tarter, both for speed: Downhill and Supergiant.
Eslàlom and Torrallardona slopes in Soldeu, training sessions and warm-ups for the technical tests
Esparver and Miquel Baró tracks in El Tarter, the training sessions and warm-ups for the speed tests.
