Ordino Arcalís: skiing in a safe valley

The preventive measures applied to the Ordino Arcalís resort and the parish establishments are certified by the Bureau Veritas Global Safe Site (GSS) quality seal.

The certification will be operational before the start of the winter season, to offer maximum confidence to skiers.

Ordino, October 20, 2020 .- The Ordino Arcalís resort will have this season one of the safest environments in terms of prevention measures against Covid-19. To the guarantees implemented from the resort itself, the efforts of the Ordino Community are added, which today announced that it will be the first town in Europe to certify prevention measures against Covid-19 in the resort itself, tourist accommodation, restaurants , shops and hotels in the parish that want to join and obtain the GSS quality seal from Bureau Veritas.

"The idea is to guarantee the safety and trust of all visitors to the Ordino Valley, in the current health situation, through a quality certification. It is a project promoted by the Ordino Community, which will be carried out by the company Bureau Veritas, an entity that has already developed other security protocols and certifications in the country ”, explains the Chief Consul J. Àngel Mortés.

The project has a budget of 40 thousand euros, and will have zero cost for all those establishments that want to join. It must be said that this budget comes from the salary cut for councilors (-15%) that was approved as an urgent measure to alleviate the effects of the health crisis and promote the revitalization of the private ski area.

In a first survey, 80% of the establishments contacted have shown a receptive attitude to be part of the plan that, it is hoped, will be operational "before the winter season begins, to attract the confidence of skiers", he added Mortés.

"Ordino takes a very important step, because with this seal the correct application of the security measures against Covid-19 established by the World Health Organization is guaranteed to the entire valley", highlighted the director of Grandvalira Resorts , Juan Ramón Moreno.

Today's appearance was attended by Cristina Viladevall, from Bureau Veritas. The Barcelona-based certifying company will carry out the audit of all the premises associated with the plan and will award two seals, the Global Safe Site, based on the protection of people, processes and facilities, or the Safe Space seal for less structured establishments. Viladevall has insisted on the culture of prevention and the need for companies to incorporate these protocols into their usual processes, to adapt to a changing situation.

Grandvalira Resorts has already advanced the prevention measures that it will implement against Covid-19 , also certified by the GSS seal of the Bureau Veritas, given the concern shown by customers, captured through an online survey. These include the regular practice of testing all personnel to guarantee the safety of workers and customers, the reinforcement of cleaning and disinfection services in common spaces, treatment with a photocatalytic system that eliminates viruses and bacteria from all surfaces with a long-lasting effect in cable cars and buildings, the installation of new air filtering systems in the heating ducts, the placement of hydro-alcoholic gel dispensers in the boarding areas of cable cars and in the buildings and restaurants of the resort, the control capacity in restaurants and other buildings in the resort, and the adaptation of technical teaching protocols in the Ski and Snowboard school to guarantee the safety of customers and monitors.

Ordino Arcalís plans to open 100% of its slopes this winter , as long as snow conditions allow it. Ordino Arcalís' commitment to offer a product of the highest quality remains unchanged despite the current situation marked by the impact of Covid-19.
