The French resort of Les 2 Alpes is entering the final stretch of its spring and summer ski season: it will close on July 31, bringing to a close 218 consecutive days with the slopes open. This closure confirms, once again, the resort’s status as one of the leading destinations for summer skiing in the French Alps.

The slopes of Les 2 Alpes are in the final stretch of their summer ski season on the Mont-de-Lans glacier.

The 2025-26 season unfolded in three consecutive phases without interruption: the regular winter season, from November 29, 2025, to May 3, 2026; spring skiing, from May 4 to 31; and summer training skiing, which runs throughout the month of July. The closure also comes amid challenging weather conditions: despite the heat wave that has also hit central Europe, the resort is completing its scheduled season without a hitch. The key lies in the altitude: the Les 2 Alpes ski area stretches from 1,280 to 3,523 metres, with a vertical drop of more than 2,200 metres, allowing it to retain high-quality snow when the rest of the Alps have already closed for the season.

Summer skiing takes place on the Mont-de-Lans Glacier, at the highest point of the ski area. Its altitude—among the highest in the Alps for summer skiing—makes Les 2 Alpes one of the few European destinations where you can keep skiing well into July, a regular gathering spot for those who don’t want to put their skis away when winter ends. In its final weeks of operation, the glacier has hosted professional World Cup racers, European Cup teams, and numerous ski clubs, all of whom take advantage of the summer snow at Mont-de-Lans to fine-tune their technique ahead of the upcoming competition season. This dual role as both a major winter resort and a summer training ground is one of Les 2 Alpes’ defining features.

When does Les 2 Alpes reopen?

The next chance to hit the slopes will be on November 28, 2026, the scheduled start of the 2026-27 winter season. The resort will once again open its 220 kilometres of slopes and 40 lifts, featuring recent additions such as the Jandri gondolas, which since 2024 have connected the 1,650-meter and 3,200-meter levels in just 17 minutes. The ski area is very beginner-friendly and family-friendly: about 65% of the runs are easy.
