The president of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, has stated that the Andalusian Government has invested since 2019 in Sierra Nevada a total of 90 million euroswith the aim of making this the great jewel of the snow season, while stressing that care, strengthen and give luster to this treasure is one of the great endeavors of this Executive.

Moreno attended the inauguration of the 'Al Ándalus' cable car of the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort, which has had an investment of more than 20 million euros and which represents the most important action of all those that have been undertaken in recent history in the ski resort.

In this regard, he explained that it is a modern, comfortable and faster than the previous cable car, which covers the 2.5 kilometres of travel in just over eight minutes, which moves in an hour to 2,700 people and represents the largest investment in the history of Sierra Nevada for a mechanical means.

He also visited the new snow production center, which has the capacity to work with half the energy expenditure than before, and the new cannons, a total of 360 state-of-the-art technological cannons, which will renew the snowmaking capacity of the Sierra Nevada.The new cannons, with which 90% of the existing ones are renewed, provide the best performance with the maximum energy efficiency, which have allowed to reinforce the production for the excellent condition of the slopes and which are fundamental for this ski resort because, as he explained;

"in the face of the lack of rain that is affecting the operation and opening of an important part of resorts in the north of Spain, this innovation makes it possible to generate the snow for the resort to open".

In this way, he has asserted that an important process of modernization is being carried out in Sierra Nevada and recalled that in the previous hotel offer two old chairlifts were replaced by new ones, to which is added that two new lifts and an initiation carpet for those who begin to ski have been installed. "In total, six new lifts in just two seasons."

The Andalusian president has clarified that in the last five years has been carried out the digitization of access, a new user service center in the Plaza de Andalucía, completely remodeled together with the City Council of Monachil, the complete remodeling of the subway car park in its four floors, the installation of new ski lifts, the installation of a new ski lift and a new ski carpet for beginners in skiing.The four floors of the underground car park, the renovation of cannons and many other reforms, the acquisition of machinery, vehicles and other improvements that make the ski resort better, rationalize its energy consumption and provide all the possibilities of enjoyment expected of it.

In addition, he reiterated that two Snowboard Cross World Cups have been held in these slopes and another one is on the calendar for this season.

In this way, he referred to other actions that will be implemented in the coming months such as the comprehensive improvement of the complex of activities for non-skiers Mirlo Blanco, the renovation of the lighting of the slope of El Rio or a study on the new urban lift to replace the Parador chairlift, which could be a subway funicular.
