Sierra Nevada's treadmill machines will use 100% renewable fuels
Sierra Nevada will be the first ski resort in Spain to use 100% renewable fuels in its snow grooming machines, which will be produced by Repsol.
Cetursa Sierra Nevada and Repsol have signed an agreement whereby the multi-energy company joins the Granada ski resort as a strategic partner in the search for sustainable energy solutions so that the Granada ski resort can achieve, among other objectives, emissions neutrality by 2050.
The councilor of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing, and president of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, Rocío Díaz, and the director of Development and New Business of Repsol, Siridia Berenguer, have signed this agreement, as reported by the Board in a press release.
The counselor has emphasized that
"This alliance will make it possible to deepen the sustainability actions already undertaken by the ski resort. Repsol fits in with the environmental policy of the ski resort, which has already been taking firm steps in this direction, such as the new ski lifts installed in the last seasons, the hybrid ski lift machines or the hybrid ski lift machines. The new ski lifts installed in recent seasons, the hybrid ski lift machines and the new energy-efficient snow production systems, which have received the support of the European Union, are just a few examples of the steps taken in this direction.
After signing the agreement, the managers of the resort and Repsol inspected in Borreguiles the ski lifts that will use 100% renewable fuel.
Agreement between Repsol and Cetursa-Sierra Nevada for 100% renewable fuel.
Cetursa Sierra Nevada is a world leader in the use of sustainable treadmill machines. It currently has eight of these types of vehicles, four of which were incorporated this year.
Now Sierra Nevada will be the first ski resort in Spain to use 100% renewable fuel in all its machines. Repsol produces it from waste and adapted to an environment that in winter usually reaches -6ºC on average at sunset. Thanks to these renewable fuels, the resort will avoid the emission of more than 180 tons of CO2.
Repsol's Director of Development and New Businesses, Siridia Berenguer, has assured that
"Thanks to this agreement, we will jointly design energy solutions for this magnificent station, based on the diversity of products and services that Repsol offers its customers. As of today, we have the contribution of 100% renewable fuels that are already being used in these footbridges, immediately reducing CO2 emissions".
Repsol manufactures this type of 100% renewable fuels from organic waste generated by our own society, such as used cooking oils or residues from agriculture, livestock or the agri-food industry. In this way, the multi-energy company also promotes the circular economy by valorizing this type of waste and avoiding its deposit in landfills.
Another pillar of the agreement will serve to implement a general waste plan for the station and a specific waste plan for Cetursa's hotel and catering establishments. These renewable fuels are, together with electrification and renewable hydrogen, fundamental technologies to reduce vehicle emissions. For this reason, Cetursa and Repsol are already working on a comprehensive study of sustainable mobility for the Sierra Nevada ski and mountain resort.
-They encourage the circular economy by using residual raw equipment s.
-They are compatible with current engines and are easy to implement.
-Zero emissions, since the carbon emitted in its combustion is balanced with that previously removed from the atmosphere in its manufacture.
-They reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars, trucks, airplanes and ships.
Snowmobiles also use 100% renewable fuel.
