Baqueira Beret opened the ski season today, Saturday, November 29, with more kilometres than initially planned and winter conditions that have not been seen for years.

The ski resort of the Val d'Aran and the Valls d'Àneu has surprised the first fans with about 70 skiable kilometres ( much more than the 54 announced a few days ago).(well above the 54 announced a few days ago), more than 40 slopes open and the three main ski areas, Baqueira, Beret and Bonaigua, fully operational. Winter thus starts with excellent sensations for skiing, driven by thicknesses ranging between 30 and 70 centimetres of snow.

The start of the season far exceeds initial expectations, the result of a last week of November marked by successive northerly squalls that have been accumulating fresh snow throughout the ski resort. During the last few days, the intense cold and the work of the slope teams have made it possible to reinforce the upper and lower levels, ensuring that the main arteries of the ski area are in optimal conditions for skiing from the first day.

It has been a long time since such a solid opening: not since the 2019-2020 season has there been a start with so much natural snow and so much skiable surface available on the last weekend of November.

The coordinated work between the week's snowfall and snow production has been decisive in presenting such a broad winter panorama at the start of the ski season. The first heavy precipitation arrived on Thursday , November 20, and intensified during the following days, with accumulations of between 30 and 40 centimetres, depending on altitude. Although the initial forecasts spoke of 40 slopes and 54 kilometres, the evolution of the snow and the conditioning of the equipment have allowed to extend the ski area to almost 70 kilometres, a news celebrated by those who inaugurate today their ski calendar.

At the same time, all the services of the ski resort are fully operational, from restaurants to schools and points of sale or recharge of BaqueiraPASS. The resort's management plans to continue progressively increasing the skiable offer as the week progresses, with the aim of arriving at the Immaculate Conception with more kilometres open and an optimal environment for skiing in all its modalities.

Probability of some more snowfall

Saturday's weather was calm and sunny, with some high clouds in the afternoon and temperatures somewhat higher than usual, with values ranging between -1 and 9 degrees.

Looking ahead to Sunday, November 30, the day will begin with very light snowfalls that will leave between 2 and 4 centimetres at high altitudes, with a snow level located between 1,000 and 1,300 metres. From midday precipitation will subside, giving way to clearings and a more stable environment. Temperatures will drop slightly, with records already in the Val d'Aran, from 0 to 8 degrees in Es Bòrdes and -2 to 5 degrees in Bagergue, accompanied by light winds from the north.

With this scenario and with the snow is guaranteed, the ski resort hopes to expand more kilometres of slopes in the coming days, consolidating a start of season that returns the enthusiasm for skiing to thousands of fans.
