One of the two new ski lifts installed this summer, the Puente II, has opened today to the public, so that the Sierra Nevada ski resort now has its own ski lift for a group of existing slopes (such as Víbora, Montebajo, Villén or El Puente) in the area of Loma de Dílar.
When the snow situation allows it, the Puente I, located at a lower elevation, will be put into operation.
In this area, Sierra Nevada and the Andalusian Federation of Winter Sports create a competition and training area for FADI teams, which will have preference, but not exclusive access to the double ski lift.
Sierra Nevada inaugurates the new El Puente II chairlift.
The transfer of a large part of the training and competition to the new lifts will contribute to decongest the Monachil chairlift and with it the central area of Loma de Dílar where the competition teams and tourist skiers are currently mixed.
It will also allow Andalusian racers to triple the number of descents per training day, bringing them closer to European training and competition arenas.
The new El Puente II ski lift is already in operation.
The overall project has a cost of 5 million euros, of which 2.5 million correspond to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Andalusian Government (which subsidized the project to support the clubs and the 3,000 athletes of the FADI), and 2.5 million is paid by Cetursa.
