If the reason you haven’t made up your mind is because you don’t know where to go or where to start, how about going on a ski holiday in December? If you have the chance to go skiing in off-peak dates, the weeks prior to Christmas can be an excellent choice!

Where is the best snow for skiing in December?

Skiing in Tignes in December

First on our list and that some of you are already familiar with is Tignes. This ski resort together with Val d’Isère were formerly known as Espace Killy. Tignes is located in the Savoie region and is known for being the highest ski resort in Europe as well as having the longest ski season in Europe. Its winter ski season stretches out from the beginning of December all they way through to May. There’s also the Grande Motte Glacier where you can even ski during the Summer!

Skiing in Alpe d'Huez in December

Another of our favourite ski resorts in the French Alps is Alpe d'Huez and that's mainly because our hotels and apartments look out onto the ski resort. You can practically ski from your room! Over 50% of the slopes are green and blue, which also make it perfect if you're skiing with children. So, if you're planning a family ski holiday for February, we have some amazing ski deals for half term in Alpe d'Huez. We have offers to suit all budgets and preferences.

Zermatt Ski Deals for December

This ski resort is located in Switzerland, so, if that doesn’t already have you thinking of coble streets, hot chocolate, cosy hotel lobbies and bernese dogs, we don’t know what will!

This ski area usually opens in late November and its long runs are perfectly suitable for skiers of all abilities.

One other thing you need to know is that Zermatt is also known for its delicious cuisine. So get yourself there at the beginning of December before all the crowds do!

Skiing in Val Thorens in December

At 2,300 metres and with a ski area of 170 km is Val Thorens, a member of the largest ski resort in Europe - Les 3 Vallées. This ski destination has an excellent record with snowfall right through to May. It’s a dream come true for intermediate skiers as out of a total of 68 runs, 25 are blue and 27 are red.

The Après-ski in Val Thorens is definitely something to experience ;)

Les 2 Alpes Ski Holidays in December

Last but not least is Les 2 Alps Ski Resort. This is definitely the best Summer ski destination!

Its name stems from the two towns on either side, Mont De Lans and Venosc. This resort usually has some runs available from in mid-November and is a great ski destination for beginners.

The closest airport is in Grenoble where you can take an airport transfer that takes under 2 hours, approximately.

Skiing in Val d'Isère in December

If you google, is Chamonix good for skiing in December?, you'll see that all the results will tell you that this ski resort is the absolute most snow-sure in the French Alps. Its ski season usually starts from late November and runs all the way into April.

Jungfrau Ski Holidays in December

We recommend skiing in January, especially straight after the Christmas holidays when the snow conditions are incredible, the prices much better than December and February and the resort tends to quieten during the week (as a lot of locals go skiing at the weekend). Having said this, early-season skiing can also be an option.
