We don’t know about you but we can’t wait to hit the slopes, which is why we wanted to share this post with all of you.
Some of you have already been searching ski holidays for 2020/2021 on our website but haven’t quite made up your mind. Why is that?
If what’s holding you back is the current situation, we totally understand and that is why we have prepared a special post dedicated to all questions related to “Should I book my ski holiday for next Winter now?”
If the reason why you haven’t made up your mind is because you don’t know where to go or where to start, how about going on a ski holiday in December? If you have the chance to go skiing in off peak dates, the weeks prior to Christmas can be an excellent choice!
This must bring you to the following question:
Where is the best snow for skiing in December?
First on our list and that some of you are already familiar with is Tignes. This ski resort together with Val d’Isère were formerly known as Espace Killy. Tignes is located in the Savoie region and is known for being the highest ski resort in Europe as well as having the longest ski season in Europe. Its winter ski season stretches out from the beginning of December all they way through to May. There’s also the Grande Motte Glacier where you can even ski during the Summer! Head to our virtual tour of the French Alps and find out more about Tignes Ski Resort.
If you're travelling from the UK, we’ve heard the Eurostar has cancelled their ski train to the Alps but this shouldn’t stop you! Tignes is easily accessible by bus from Chambery (1 hour and 40 mins) and Geneva (2 hours and 30 mins). So you can fly into either airport and take a bus that will take you to your ski resort.
If you have already visited Tignes and want to visit a different ski destination in Europe, we highly recommend Zermatt. This is one of our latest additions!
What’s so special about Zermatt?
This ski resort is located in Switzerland,so, if that doesn’t already have you thinking of coble streets, hot chocolate, cosy hotel lobbies and bernese dogs, we don’t know what will!
This ski area usually opens in late November and its long runs are perfectly suitable for skiers of all abilities.
One other thing you need to know is that Zermatt is also known for its delicious cuisine. So get yourself there at the beginning of December before all the crowds do!
Good to know: For now we do not include the ski pass in our offers however, this should not stop you from booking your hotel in Zermatt with Esquiades.com. We guarantee our prices are unbeatable ;)
Where else is there good snow in December?
At 2,300 metres and with a ski area of 170 km is Val Thorens, a member of the largest ski resort in Europe - Les 3 Vallées. This ski destination has an excellent record with snowfall right through to May. It’s a dream come true for intermediate skiers as out of a total of 68 runs, 25 are blue and 27 are red.
The Après-ski in Val Thorens is definitely something to experience ;)
Val Thorens was our first stop of our tour of the French Alps so make sure to read our post!
This french ski resort is also very close to both Geneva and Chambery Airports and about 2 hours from Tignes.
And let's not forget...
Last but not least is Les 2 Alps Ski Resort. This is definitely the best Summer ski destination!
Its name stems from the two towns on either side, Mont De Lans and Venosc. This resort usually has some runs available from in mid-November and is a great ski destination for beginners.
The closest airport is in Grenoble where you can take an airport transfer that takes under 2 hours, approximately.
Booking a pre-Christmas ski holiday may sound foolish but, if you book one of these snow-sure ski resorts in December, you have a strong chance of having great snow conditions. Plus, you will avoid all the crowds and if you book your ski holiday now, you’ll have first dibs on booking dates and benefit from cheaper rates.
We are currently offering flexible cancellation fees and low deposits to help you confirm your ski holiday in advance.
