Do you love skiing but hate long waits and queues? There are certain times of the ski season when all of the ski resorts are busy due to school holidays but that doesn’t mean you should miss out on skiing during your favourite ski dates.
Christmas is one of those dates when children are off school and parents take time off from work to go on a family ski holiday.
So, if you want to offer your kids a white Christmas and avoid dealing with loads of people at the same time, check out our list of Europe’s best ski resorts for a chilled Christmas break!
1. Wengen, Switzerland
Switzerland is easily one of the most popular ski destinations in the world especially during the Christmas holidays, which is why you need to find the perfect ski village to enjoy a nice and peaceful ski holiday with the family. What you’re looking for is called Wengen, located close to Interlaken and can only be accessed by train. The village is totally pedestrian and is surrounded by snow-white mountains and slopes. It’s a super magical place to visit with the kids!
On Esquiades.com your ski pass will include access to both Wengen and Grindelwald ski areas. So you can change ski resorts depending on how crowded they are.
2. La Plagne, French Alps.
This ski resort is known for being very traditional and having a very cosy atmosphere, so it’s excellent for a quiet ski holiday with the kids during the Christmas break. You’ll find the village has loads of events planned for the evening to make your ski experience truly magical.
3. Innsbruck Olympia SkiWorld, Austria.
You may be thinking, hang on, this ski pass gives you access to 13 ski resorts, that sounds like a lot of people to me… Well, a lot of these ski resorts are small family-oriented resorts with 20 slopes max, which is ideal if you’re looking for a quiet ski break. And as there are so many to choose from, this means that you can easily avoid crowds and head to smaller, quieter ski resorts. All of them are a short transfer ride from Innsbruck city centre, so it’s super easy and convenient to get around with the kids. Plus! The ski pass also includes access to the local zoo, indoor pools and museums, so there are plenty of après-ski activities you can do with the kids.
4. Molina & Masella, Spain.
These ski resorts are located on the north of Barcelona, practically on the border between Spain and France, so they are easily accessible from either country. In fact, mainly people from Barcelona go skiing there, so they are pretty quiet throughout the entire ski season.
If you’re looking to ski somewhere totally unheard off and at a super cheap price, you should definitely visit this area! And, it’s super family-oriented so it’s great for a Christmas family ski holiday with the kids.
5. Cauterets, French Pyrenees.
Many people describe this ski village as Paris in the mountains and that’s because the Royals used to go skiing here and so, the village made it look as elegant as Paris. This ski area is easily reached by train and car from Toulouse airport.
Families that are looking for good value skiing need to visit this area of the French Pyrenees. The main gondola is located in the town centre making it super convenient to get to the slopes and the beginner ski area is perfectly suitable for children. If you’re travelling with intermediate skiers, Luz Ardiden ski resorts is super close by as well.
