Sierra Nevada is gearing up for the 2026-2027 ski season with an investment of over 17 million euros, allocated to ski lifts, snowmaking, restaurants, and access roads. This was highlighted by Patricia del Pozo, the Regional Minister of Culture, Historical Heritage, and Sports and president of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, who emphasized the efforts of all departments at the Granada resort to ensure everything is ready for the start of the winter season.

More artificial snow and renovated ski lifts

This season, the resort is adding two new snow-making units (Snow Factory), which will be installed in Borreguiles and on the lower half of the El Río run. Their arrival will allow for an earlier opening of the beginners’ area, one of the most popular ski areas in Sierra Nevada. At the same time, the Borreguiles reservoir is being repaired with new waterproofing systems to prevent leaks of water used for snowmaking—a project similar to the one carried out last summer on the Zahareña reservoir.

As for the ski lifts, the Stadium, Laguna, and Montebajo chairlifts are undergoing the special inspection required by regulations after 25 years of service. The Stadium chairlift will debut a new boarding carpet and the RPD system, designed to minimize blockages caused by freezing rain, while the upper station of the Monachil chairlift will be renovated. The Loma de Dílar snowpark, for its part, will amend the landing areas of its large jumps so it can open with less snow, pending the final environmental approval.

New restaurant and renovated car park lots in Pradollano

Sierra Nevada has already completed the new Nevasol restaurant, in the heart of the Borreguiles ski area, and has added a new snow groomer and four snowmobiles to its fleet. In Pradollano, the resort is reorganizing two of its surface car park lots: the Las Sabinas lot will be designated for rotating passenger cars and season pass holders, while the Peñones lot will include a specific area for RVs. Part of the bus car park lot has also been repaved, and the restrooms in the underground car park car park at Plaza de Andalucía are being renovated; lighting fixtures there are also being replaced in collaboration with the Monachil City Council.

With all these improvements, Sierra Nevada is entering the 2026-2027 season with increased artificial snow capacity, renovated ski lifts, and new services in Pradollano—all designed to enhance the skier’s experience from the very first day on the slopes.
