Grandvalira to create new ski slopes with a new ski lift in Encampadana

The skiable area in Andorra's Grandvalira ski resort plans to expand with the creation of new slopes on the Encampadana peak for the 2023/2024 ski season. This is an area that already in 2006 was enabled for freeride, and which was accessed by a ski groomer. The service was free with the ski pass valid for that day, and only started up when the technicians considered the area to be secured.

The success of this ski area encouraged the company to develop it to improve access. The initial project called for the installation of two chairlifts and a ski lift, as well as the creation of several ski runs for skiers of a good level.

In 2011, the first phase of the project was approved, and that same summer the TK Encampadana ski lift was installed, providing access to several freeride runs, including the so-called Encampadana, Les Solanelles and Bosc del Comellar channels, which go down to Riba Escorxada, as well as the red run known as "Isards.

It could not be released until the end of March 2012, along with the also new freeride area Pic Blanc in Grau Roig. Since then, the development of Encampadana had not been continued until the right moment arrived.

According to this Sunday's Diari d'Andorra, that moment has arrived thanks to the dismantling of a ski lift in Pal-Arinsal, which can now be used to relocate Encampadana. This is one of the advantages of ENSISA's taking over the shares of Pal-Arinsal two years ago, forming the joint venture SETAP365.

According to the Andorran newspaper, the aim is to create two new slopes for this season. The procedures for the installation of this new ski lift are already very advanced, and in this way it will allow Gradvalira's skiable ski area to grow to exceed the 210 kilometres it has at present.

By reusing a ski lift, two benefits are achieved. On the one hand, a considerable economic saving, and on the other hand, it creates less residual impact when reconditioning a ski lift.
