The Vall d'Incles ski lift has been completely withdrawn.
Going up the road to Grandvalira, and shortly after passing the Parador Canaro, it has been possible to see for more than 50 years, the orange bollards of an old ski lift just in one of the curves. This ski lift has just been dismantled by Ski Andorra, which is leading an initiative to remove the oldest and most abandoned ski lifts in the mountains.
Andorra is thus taking another step towards the pbooking of the environment and wildlife thanks to Ski Andorra's initiative to remove disused ski lifts. The country joins other countries such as France that have been carrying out these actions for years. The goal: to improve the safety and aesthetics of the landscape, protect the safety of wildlife and preserve the environment.
The ski lift removed was the one in the Incles Valley and it was the only one missing in the whole country. It was a 4-pylon device that had not been in service for years and it is a situation that represents an improvement in environmental impact: the elimination of obsolete equipment considerably reduces carbon emissions and promotes the conservation of biodiversity in the region.
With more than 50 years of presence in the Incles Valley, this ski lift was the first one installed in the valley and belonged to the Sanclimens family, from the Jan del Sastre house. It represented a means of transportation in the mountains during the winter and has witnessed the historical development of the region. The family thus managed to leave its own mark on the landscape and in the memory of the local inhabitants for many years, as it was a local icon.
Three ski lifts were in operation in the Vall d'Incles. In addition to the Ski Parador Canaro in 1968, the only one that has survived to the present day, and next to this device, another individual mounted the one at Roc Sant Miquel. A little further up in the early 70's, the Incles Ski Lift.
Years later, in 1975, the Peretol ski lift was put into operation, in the Bordes d'Envalira, as a complement to the hotel of the same name. Although there are no more vestiges of that lift, the area is still skiable after Grandvalira took it over in 2009 to incorporate it into its ski area.
With the vision of promoting sustainability and thanks to the help of the "Home del Sac", the entity was in charge of the whole process of removing all the pieces of the ski lift. The ski lift was transported to a recycling center, where all the parts were properly processed. An initiative that has highlighted the importance of environmental responsibility and collaboration as drivers of change towards a more sustainable future.
With the retirement of this historic ski lift, Ski Andorra is committed to adopting measures to preserve the natural environment and is leading the way towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious ski industry. The farewell of this ski lift not only closes a chapter of history, but also opens its doors to a cleaner and greener future.
