How's the new normal on your end? The Summer is coming to an end and you must all be thinking of what's the Winter going to be like this year.
We can only speak for ourselves and say that we can't wait to ski, which is why we've contacted the ski resorts that have been open during the Summer to see how they are copping so far and we come with go news! If we all follow the health and safety measures that the ski resorts are implementing, we will all be able to enjoy the Winter on the slopes ;)
Tignes Ski Resort
Tignes has been able to open a total of 20 skiable km from June 27 to August 2 for those who have not been able to wait for winter to ski . The Ski Resort has been pleasantly surprised with the number of skiers they have received.
What measures have they implemented over the Summer?
They inform us that the use of a mask is mandatory in the chair lifts and any other means of transport.
As for the social distance between people on the slopes, they tell us that with 300 km of slopes, we have plenty of room to maintain the distances between all of us.
People have able to access the resort and practice mountain sports since May 11.
And what about renting ski and snowboard equipment?
There will be a single entrance and a single exit and the store will be delimited so that we all follow the same route and thus we can keep the distances of 1.5 meters between us. Both staff and customers must wear a mask and ensure that the material will be disinfected before and after each use.
If you want to rent a helmet, they will give you a protective mesh to wear under the helmet.
Ski and Snowboard Schools
- Limit the number of students according to what the legislature marks at that time.
- Mandatory use of masks for over 10 years and instructors
When is the ski resort due to open for the Winter?
We were in contact with them yesterday and they confirmed that they plan to open the glacier on October 10, which will kick start the 2020/2021 ski season ;)
Chamonix Ski Resort
The Chamonix - Montblanc Ski Resort has been able to receive its visitors during the summer to: go trekking, climb the Aiguille du Midi, take the famous little red rack railway to the Mer de Glace, etc.
In their latest statement, they have informed us that "It is our responsibility that social and economic life be sustainable, ensuring compliance with prevention measures in order to offer the best health guarantees for our entire population and tourists."
From August 4, 2020, the use of the mask is mandatory in the city center (pedestrian or high-traffic areas and in markets) for people over 10 years old.
Have a look at the map of the town where you can see where the use of the mask is mandatory and where the markets are.
Here are the health and safety measures against Covid-19 that the Chamonix Ski Resort has already implemented:
- Temperature control.
- Hydroalcoholic gel at all entrances and various points of the resort.
- Mandatory use of the mask in entrances, cable car and other means of transport and in closed common areas.
