New Espace Freerife De Le Rue in Saint Lary

Saint Lary has a new off- slope area named Espace Freeride de La Rue in honor of this family saga of five brothers who have carried the name of the ski resort around the world, thanks to their successes in snowboarding and off- slope .

The inauguration was attended by none of the brothers, who have even had their name placed on cabin number 5 of the new Espiaubé, as this is the number of La Rue brothers: Paul-Henri, Victor, Xavier, François and Sabine de le Rue.

The slope record of this saga is exceptional. Paul-Henri de La Rue has an Olympic bronze in Snowboardcross at Sochi-2014, in addition to six other medals at the World Championships.

His brother Xavier de La Rue achieved two golds and a silver in different World Championships, in addition to 3 Crystal Globes in the Snowboarcross World Cup and has been three consecutive times winner of the Freeride World Tour (2008, 2009 and 2010).

For his part Victor de Le Rue has also won the Freeride World Tour in snowboarding twice, in 2019 and 2021. His sister Sabine is not far behind with a runner-up in the snowboarding world championship. François as the eldest of the offspring was the one who initiated them all on the wideboard.

Very attached to the Saint-Lary ski resort, where they got their start in snowboarding, the Le Rue siblings now give their name to a freeride area in the Espiaubé ski area when snow conditions permit. Akim Boufaïd, Director of the Saint-Lary-Soulan resort, explains that.

"The 600-700 meters of descent, with a vertical drop of 300 meters, guarantee excitement. This ski area is for good skiers. A banner in the colors of the Le Rue family marks the entrance to this ski and snowboard area, and we will soon be adding this name to our resort map and communications.

The French Pyrenees ski resort always tries to remember the champions who have carried the name around the world. To those of La Rue, joins the Mir family, who distinguished themselves with Isabelle. Born in the town of Saint Lary, she won a silver medal in the slalom at the Grenoble '68 Olympic Games, as well as two other medals of the same metal at the 1968 and 1970 World Championships. She gives her name to the red slope Mirabelle.

The family saga continues with Mila de Le Rue, Xavier's daughter, who is starting to make a name for herself within the Browns Bears Club, the driving force behind snowboarding in Saint Lary.

The Espace Freeride de Le Rue will be marked in Saint Lary.
