Sierra Nevada records the heaviest snowfall in recent ski seasons

Sierra Nevada has registered this weekend the highest snowfall of the last seasons, with accumulations of more than one meter of new snow, which confirms that, except for very adverse meteorological mishaps, the Granadian winter resort will be able to extend the winter season until April 28, a week longer than expected.

The ski resort has activated the maximum risk of avalanche (5 over 5) in certain areas of the ski area, such as the black slopes that start in Loma de Dílar and end in the River, where there is a risk of detachment of snow cornices. Sierra Nevada 's machinists have set up snow barriers in El Río to prevent possible avalanches from these areas from entering the slopes.

After two days of closure for the season, all the Mountain departments are working from today to recover the skiing offer before the snowfall(85 kilometers) and to advance in new openings. Unblocking of ski lifts, cleaning of snow from the lift stations(some buried) and grooming of all areas are taking place from today to offer as soon as possible the best skiing conditions of the winter season.

The snow has arrived at all levels, leaving a very wintry picture in Pradollano.

Although the weekend snowfall occurred with heavy blizzard, the Sierra Nevada Ski Service has increased thicknesses in all areas from 50 to 100 centimeters (in some points with windbreaks and snowdrifts will be higher), so that the current accumulations are already up to two meters in areas such as Borreguiles. The area with less snow thickness reaches 70 centimeters in Parador-Cauchiles.

Given the new snow situation, the resort is going to launch the hotel offer "Sierra Nevada, at the best time", to encourage users to enjoy the best snow of the winter year and subsequently improve the influx at a time when ski and snowboard enthusiasts appreciate the renowned spring snow of the mountain of Granada.

Otherwise, the resort will rearrange the sports calendar of the season in order to hold all competitions of all disciplines and categories that have been postponed by the snow situation or adverse weather conditions during the weeks prior to the snowfall this weekend.
