The restaurant El Racó de Solanelles, located in the Encamp ski area of Grandvalira, was the meeting point last Saturday of the solidarity Brunch organized by Grandvalira Social and the Andorra National Committee for Unicef. It gathered more than a hundred attendees, thanks to whom a total amount of 8,260 euros was raised.

The president of the Andorra National Committee for Unicef, Marianela Vila Aristot, valued the action very positively and pointed out that they were "very happy to be able to celebrate the Solidarity Brunch again". She also thanked the Andorran solidarity highlighting that

"Of the 33 Unicef committees in the world, in Andorra we are the fourth or fifth in donations per capita, when there are committees in much larger countries such as the United States".

The president of Grandvalira Social, Cristina Viladomat, explained that

"we are doing this action in favor of the Andorra National Committee for Unicef, with whom we have a very good relationship, as they have projects in different areas around the world".

Marianela Vila Aristot clarified that the funds will not be destined to a single project but to a single project.

"to the different projects we have, which are mainly two: one in favor of women and girls in Afghanistan, and another in Madagascar to rebuild a village that is very affected by the effects of climate change".

Vila Aristot added, more in a national context, that

"here in Andorra we also do things to raise awareness of mental health issues and disseminate children's rights".

The effect of climate change has become a social emergency in Madagascar. Its energy consumption based on biomass fuels that release gases when burned further aggravates this situation. Unicef's project to expand sustainable energy systems will be instrumental in helping communities become more resilient to climate change and build a greener and, above all, more prosperous future for the country's children. It is for this reason that the organization is working to accelerate the deployment of solar-powered water systems in 20 drought-affected villages, specifically in the Androy region in the south of the country. The impact will result in increased capacity to cope with the effects of the lack of rainfall, reduced carbon emissions and new employment opportunities.

The work of Grandvalira Social

Grandvalira Social's mission is to promote the sport of skiing and to bring it closer to groups with special needs by organizing stays in the ski area for children and young people with the objectives of stimulating leisure through sport and nature; promoting adapted sports activities and encouraging the social integration of people with physical or mental handicaps, among others. As its president, Cristina Viladomat, said during the ceremony,

"We organize insertion projects through sport, and specifically through skiing because it is our sport, and with groups with different difficulties, because we believe that when you ski you forget everything. This is what my father, who was its founder, always said, and this is the basis of what we try to do".

Grandvalira Social also collaborates with various entities and different purposes, both inside and outside the country, such as the Call center (La Gavernera), the specialized school of Meritxell, the Fundación Enriqueta Villavecchia of Barcelona, the Enfants de la Lune Association, the ADIS Foundation of La Cerdanya, the Casa de Colonias Aina, Cáritas, or Special Olympics Andorra, among others.
