Stubai and Solden, in Austria, are bringing forward the start of the ski season

The abundant snowfall in Austria in recent days, plus the expected snowfall in the near future, is encouraging many ski resorts to open earlier than planned. This is the case of the Stubai and Solden glaciers, which will open this Friday instead of waiting until October.

A lot would have to change for this year's opening of the Alpine skiing World Cup in Solden not to take place under the best conditions of recent seasons. The Austrian glacier has been one of the great beneficiaries of the snowfalls that have fallen in Central Europe and the Alps in recent days, which has allowed it tobring forward the start of its winter season.

Skiing in Austria

They had planned to do so in October, but the conditions are so magnificent that they have just announced that this Friday, September 20, they will start ski lifts and slopes for skiing on the Rettenbach glacier.

The reality is that the situation is radically different from last year at this same time on September 17. The mountains are now white, loaded with snow and even the alpine skiing World Cup slope seems to be ready to start preparing. The best racers of the 'white circus' will meet there on October 26 and 27.

And another glacier that has also announced that it will start this Friday, the Stubaier Gletscher. It has also brought forward its planned start date for the ski season and has been another of those who have benefited from the extraordinary snowfall of recent days in Austria, and hope that again they can get more snow soon.

Offers in the Austrian Alps

According to Stubai, the snowfall has left more than half a meter of snow on the slopes, which will allow them to start the ski season in conditions not expected at all, especially for this early autumn.

And who continues to open these days is Hochkeil, the first ski resort without glacier slopes that has opened its season in the northern hemisphere. Quite a feat considering its altitude, which starts at only 1,300 meters, with a ceiling at 1,784 meters. And not only that, but they do not have a single canyon. All its snow is 100% natural.
