Sierra Nevada is counting down to its ski season. The opening target has been set for the next weekend of December 1. The drop in temperatures and appropriate weather forecasts for the next few days, have allowed the snow production system to start up.
The technical staff of Sierra Nevada is focusing on the conditioning of the first slopes in the Borreguiles ski area and the upper half of the El Rio slope. Thanks to the computer system of the snow network, it is possible to know in which exact points it is possible to start snowmaking.
The opening of the ski season in Sierra Nevada was scheduled for this coming Saturday, November 25, but the conditions on the slopes advised to delay a few days the start of the hotel offer, and focus on ensuring the Puente de la Inmaculada.
Sierra Nevada will start the new season after having undertaken the largest investment in its history, estimated at just over 30 million euros, with which it has been possible to replace the Al-Andalus gondola lift, place the two ski lifts Puente I and II, as well as a new ribbon of debutants baptized as Dauro II.
These innovations are complemented by the improvement in the efficiency of the snow production system with the purchase of new equipment that consumes less and produces more, as well as the acquisition of up to four new hybrid snow grooming machines. They combine combustion engines with electric motors, reducing the carbon footprint.
