Sierra Nevada will be able to inaugurate its three new ski lifts at the same time

Rocío Díaz visits the work on the new Al Ándalus gondola lift in Sierra Nevada

The three new ski lifts that the ski resort of Sierra Nevada installed for the new season, the Al Ándalus gondola lift and the double ski lift El Puente, have reached this week 85% of completion, so that, if there are no problems of work, will come into operation "almost simultaneously" between the Constitution Bridge and the start of the Christmas holidays.

This was confirmed this Saturday by the Minister of Development, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía and president of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, Rocío Díaz, who visited the state of the works together with the CEO, Jesús Ibáñez, and the technical managers of the contractors.

The most important action is the replacement of the old Al Andalus replacement of the old Al ÁndalusAfter 33 years of service, it has been replaced by a latest generation gondola lift, more comfortable and faster than the previous one, and "more efficient from the energy point of view", according to Díaz. The works of the new lift, with an investment of 16.7 million co-financed with European funds React-EU, is the largest one destined to a mechanical means of Sierra Nevada. These works are in their final phase, with the completion of the civil works of the lower and upper buildings. In the last days of October, the cabins will be installed: 77 units with a capacity for 10 people each and with ski racks inside.

The Al Ándalus gondola lift will have 19 towers, compared to the 25 towers of the old one, and will cover a 2.5-kilometer transport distance between the Pradollano urbanization and the nerve center of the ski area in Borreguiles.

Technical data TC Al-Andalus

  • Type: Single cable gondola lift
  • Starting altitude: 2142
  • Arrival altitude: 2,687
  • Difference in altitude: 545 meters
  • Speed: 6 m/s
  • Length: 2.5 kilometers
  • Cabins: 77
  • Seats: 10
  • Transport capacity: 2,700 people/h.
  • Travel time: 8.5 minutes
  • Bollards: 19
  • Ski racks: interior
  • Cost: 16.7 million euros*.
  • Builder: Doppelmayr

The other major project is located in the Loma de Dílar area where the El Puente double ski lift is, like the Al Ándalus, in the execution phase of the lower and upper stations before proceeding to install the telearastres.

The Puente I and II chairlifts will serve an existing ski area (the Víbora, Montebajo, Villén and El Puente slopes) where the Sierra Nevada training and competition area will now be promoted. Thus, it will decongest the Monachil chairlift and with it the Loma de Dílar area, where currently Andalusian competition teams and tourist skiers mix, creating traffic problems and eventually safety problems.

With the transfer of competitive athletes to the El Puente area, a competition stadium will be created, equipped for high-performance training and the holding of official events.

The double ski lift has a cost of 4.1 million euros, of which 2.5 million correspond to the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Tourism and Sports (the rest, 1.6 million is paid by Cetursa), which subsidized the project to support the clubs and the 3,000 athletes of the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation (FADI).
