Small countries such as Liechtenstein, Monaco or San Marino, have a heliport within their territory, or even an airfield. The problem of Andorrans is that if they want to fly to another country they have to do 200 km to BCN or Toulouse. And in the reverse case, tourists must make a couple of hours to reach this mountainous paradise.

Relatively recently , La Seu d'Urgell Airport was inaugurated, where Andorra hoped that it would finally be its airport, but the size of the runways does not allow large aircraft landings. In addition some of the ships must be diverted to Lleida-Alguaire or even to the airport of Reus if the weather conditions vary a little.

Likewise, the Heads of State of Andorran have been trying for more than 17 years to find a place to locate an airport with capacity for large aircraft. The first attempt was made in 2001 in which the possibility of locating it in La Rabassa was studied, but part of the slope had to be built in Spanish territory and this complicated the process completely.

Now, for the umpteenth time, the company Navblue belonging to the giant Airbus has been commissioned to carry out a new study. This time it will invest 100.00 euros contributed by the Chamber of Commerce of Andorra. It has been requested that the study be done on land located almost 2,000 meters high between Soldeu and the ski slopes of Grau Roig where there is a large straight to land large aircraft.

The goal is to build a track about 2 kilometres long , with the aim of operating not only continental routes, but also transoceanic routes. If this airport becomes a reality, the one in La Seu d'Urgell would be complementary. Also, the mayor of this town has responded that this project is science fiction and does not believe that we will ever see it.
