1 Grandvalira sectors: Which is the most convenient for me?
1.1 Pas de la Casa, the sector with the best atmosphere
1.2 Soldeu, for intermediate skiers
1.3 El Tarter, for groups with different levels
1.4 Grau Roig, for kids and freeriders
1.5 Canillo and Encamp, for beginners

Grandvalira offers more than 200 kilometres for slopes for skiers with different levels: this massive ski resort located in Andorra is an authentic paradise and different profile skiers assist every year to enjoy this ski destination.

Furthermore, if you choose to go skiing to the Grandvalira ski resort, the difficult part will be to choose one sector or another, the rest is easy, relax and enjoy. On Esquiades.co.uk we want you to discover their facilities and features. Let’s go!

Where to ski in Grandvalira?

At the moment, Grandvalira counts with 210 skiable kilometres and the distribution is the following: 19 green slopes, 49 are blue, 41 are red and also has 19 black slopes. So, the difficulty of the tracks is well distributed among the different sectors.

The more experience you have, more northwards you will have to go. Encamp and Canillo are great sectors for beginners, the level increases in El Tarter and Soldeu and once you get to Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa you will be able to enjoy the most complicated slopes in the ski resort, nearly all of them are red and black.

Grandvalira sectors: Which is the most convenient for me?

Pas de la Casa, the sector with the best atmosphere

Pas de la casa is a small village that belongs to Encamp and borders France. It’s one of the access points of the country. There are 2 main chair lifts (4/6 seaters) that take skiers to other sectors inside Grandvalira or want to go down the highest points. Even though, the lowest point counts with tracks for beginners so they are an excellent choice for children.

You will also find the best atmosphere in Pas de la Casa thanks to the many après-ski options, there are many restaurants, nice hotels in Grandvalira and pubs, so it’s a great option if you are travelling with friends and want to continue the fun after skiing. There is no better plan! Check out the best ski packages here.

Soldeu, for intermediate skiers

Without a doubt the Soldeu sector is one of the most versatile. It’s located strategically in the centre of Grandvalira and counts with wide tracks with great descents for ski and snowboard lovers.

Going no further, you will be able to find one of the most popular tracks, called Avet (there is a fir tree right in the middle of the tracks that gives it its name), headquarters of the Women’s Ski World Cup in 2012.

On the other hand, it’s a great option if you are travelling with your family or you are beginning to ski.

El Tarter, for groups with different levels

It’s turn to talk about one of the most dynamic sectors inside Grandvalira, El Tarter, that counts with one of the best Snow Parks in the Pyrenees. It also has one of the best black slopes inside the resort, l’Aliga, that goes from the Tosa Espiolets chairlift at 2,467 metres of altitude, to the lowest point of the sector, at 1,710 metres.

It’s not all adrenaline. Families will also be able to find a variety of features and facilities for children, such as the Bababoom Circus, where kids can enjoy a track designed specially for them with some great surprises.

Furthermore, in El Tarter there is the well-known l’Abarset, an après-ski pub that opens from 5pm and offers all kinds of events with different DJs that are recognised internationally. Whatever your profile is, you will be welcomed in El Tarter.

Grau Roig, for kids and freeriders

Grau Roig is the skiing sector that offers the most comforts to park your car. It is the only sector that doesn’t have a residential area, so this zone is the best when it comes to landscapes and views.

In conclusion, this sector is the most unspoilt, with slopes for all levels and routes adapted for children. In Grau Roig you will be able to enjoy in many different ways: sledges pulled by huskies, snowshoe activities and snow jet skis.

We can’t forget that this sector counts with great freeride and mountain skiing areas, with 3 indicated circuits and the only kilometre launched track in the Iberian Peninsula, permanent headquarters of the World Cup.

Don’t miss out on our skiing with children guide.

Canillo and Encamp, for beginners

Are you looking for a quiet atmosphere? Canillo and Encamp are the ideal sectors to stay at. The first is the nearest to the capital, Andorra La Vella, and offers good comfort. You can access the ski resort with the Funicamp, a gondola that takes you inside for 6 kilometres, you will be at the slopes in 15 minutes (Solanelles area), where the tracks start. There is a great variety but you will mostly find green and blue tracks for beginners.

In Canillo, the same thing happens. The ski slopes in this sector are perfect for beginners and families. So, if you have made your mind up and are willing to get a first contact with the snow, you don’t have to think about it more. In Canillo you will enjoy yourself like a kid. Check out our Grandvalira ski deals, choose accommodation + Ski Pass. Good hotel options could be the Roc Meler hotel and the Ski Plaza hotel.
