The Provincial Council of Huesca has confirmed to Javier Lambán that it is renouncing the 26.4 million euros of European funds for the linking of the Astún and Formigal resorts. Miguel Gracia, president of the institution, considers that the deadlines set by Europe cannot be met and has asked that these funds be redistributed to other projects in Aragón.
The president of the Provincial Council has sent a letter to the head of Aragón, Javier Lambán, in which he assures that the institution cannot undertake the project "in time and form" and asks to redistribute the funds.
Gracia considers that the project could not be carried out within the deadlines required by the European Union in order to invest the 26.4 million euros that the DGA had received from European funds. The president of the DPH recalls that there is no Environmental Impact Statement, that the PIGA has not been started and that there is no land available.
The president of the Provincial Council offered Lambán a joint agreement for the Government of Aragon to lead the project, which would have shortened the deadlines. The DPH already sent a letter last week to the European Union and the DGA to transmit it to the Spanish Government.
And Gracia is clear that the project can go ahead without European funds, but considers that the debate should be left for after the elections, with the new government.
"We have to continue with the administrative processes. The process in Castanesa took three years and a decade until work began."
However, Marta Gastón, president of the Aramón group, does not agree that the project can be executed without the European funds.
Gracia regrets giving up the 26.4 million euros for the Astún and Formigal link, but indicated that it would hurt her more if Aragón were to lose that amount. That is why he has asked for the redistribution of these funds and considers that the regions are prepared to present their new projects and that the deadlines would be met.
