Cervinia will offer skiing 365 days a year

The Cervinia ski resort has already set a date for the start of its winter season . If weather conditions do not prevent it, in mid-October 2023 the first lifts and slopes for the winter season will be put into operation. And it will not stop until May 5, 2024. On the following day, the summer skiing season will begin.

In other words, there will no longer be an intermediate season without operation between the winter and summer seasons. Up to now, the ski resorts had to wait 6 to 7 weeks before starting up again. But thanks to the new international Matterhorn Alpine Crossing, the Swiss glacier can now be reached on skis or snowboard from Italy .

This was announced this week by Cervino spa, the company that manages the lifts on the Italian side of the Gran Becca.

"This is an absolute novelty that will allow fans to ski without interruption, taking advantage of the Breuil-Cervinia-Zermatt international ski pass. It will be the longest season ever. For the first time, there will be no break between the winter and summer openings.

At this time of year, the glacier slopes are open every day and conditions are optimal thanks to the recent snowfall."

If it also manages to open all year round, it will join the glaciers of Hintertux (Austria) and Zermatt (Switzerland), although technically what it is offering is access from Italy to a skiable area in the neighboring country. On very few occasions has it been possible to launch any slopes on the transalpine side during the summer.

After the inauguration on June 30 of the new Swiss Matterhorn Alpine Crossing cable car between Plateau Rosa/Testa Grigia (3,458 meters), along the Italian border, and Piccolo Cervino (3,821 meters), the focus is now on the renovation of the lifts in the Aosta Valley.
