A bypass in La Massana will shorten the way to Ordino ski resort

Reaching the ski resort of Ordino Arcalís will be a little faster when the new variant of La Massana is released, which will allow to go around this population and thus not having to go through the interior. This is an old claim, especially for winter days.

It is expected that work will begin next year and that the bypass will be fully operational by 2027. Preliminary studies indicate that the new infrastructure will eliminate 70% of the traffic between the towns of Massana and Ordino.

The original project had six sections. Section 1 was to start at the Dos Valires tunnel, but this meant building another tunnel and a viaduct, which increased the cost of the work to 60 million euros. Now this phase has been discarded, but the other three will go ahead, reducing the cost to 32 million euros, practically half, and thus unclogging the infrastructure.

Once Section 1 has been discarded, Section 2 will be put out to tender. It will start at the curve of the CG-3 road in the Serra d'Honor, which is where the most traffic tends to accumulate at peak hours and on peak days in winter. It will be 2 kilometres long, has an execution period of two and a half years, and will cost 9.2 million euros, of which five will be provided by the Comú de la Massana (as it is considered an urban road) and the rest by the Government of Andorra.

Section 3 will be put out to tenderin 2025, and foresees the crossing of the Valira del Nord up to the Palanques area, with several viaducts over the river and a length of about 500 meters. From this section it will be possible to access the center of La Massana through branches that will go to the Comú area.

Sections 4 and 5 will be put out to tender in 2026. In the first case, the road will go in the direction of Arinsal and will connect with the CG3 as it ski passes by the cable car, where there is currently a car park area that will facilitate the car park of vehicles to access the center of La Massana.

As for Section 5, it will go towards Ordino and will connect the fire station bridge and the Rossell Forge, where a viewpoint is planned that will be accessible from the sidewalk of the new road.
