The improvement plan for the Formigal ski resort has received a new boost and has a clear path in terms of environmental resolutions. The Aragonese Institute of Environmental Management (Inaga) has decided that the modification of the project to improve the connection of the valleys of Izas and Anayet with a new ski lift does not need to undergo an environmental impact assessment. It is the first step of a process that would have taken many more months in the event that this initial review had not been passed.
This new ski lift, to the northeast , would be added to the two that already exist in this area of the winter season and would increase the transport capacity of the center, which is currently 50,005 skiers per hour.
The Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) of the Formigal expansion project dates from 2003 . This new ski lift is the one that is pending to complete the remodeling of the station. But 13 years later there have been some changes in this transport. Specifically, the modification affects the B13 chairlift , which leaving from Izas maintains a path very similar to that proposed 16 years ago but would end at the Lapazuso pass. This means that from 1,938 m in length it goes to 2,054 m.
This stakeout remained for a month in public exhibition. After studying the allegations presented, Inaga has concluded that the projected actions, including the new layout of the red track Pala de Escarra , in the High Sector of Izas,
"They do not imply a significant increase in the conditions analyzed in the aforementioned statement. Moreover, some even suggest a better adaptation to the land and a minimization of land use."
As for the conditions on the soil and vegetation, it is pointed out that they can be minimized by the application of corrective measures and a restoration project . Likewise, Inaga points out that there would be few effects on the landscape, fauna and on the recovery plan of the bonebreaker.
The installation of this ski lift will be compatible with the Anayet Partacua Natural Resources Management Plan and with the Biosphere Reserve.
Based in part on the considerations raised by the General Directorate of Culture and Heritage due to the existence of deposits in the project environment, it will be necessary to conduct paleontological and archaeological surveys to determine if there are conditions. In that case, the measures for their protection should be applied.
