If you are looking for the ideal place, remember that the Vallnord ski resort has all the necessary resources to help beginners to take their first steps in the snow. In this Vallnord guide for beginners we will explain which of its sectors is the best to get closer to winter sports.

Vallnord has two different sectors. On one hand there ir Pal-Arinsal (formed by the two sectors that give it its name: Pal and Arinsal). Both are linked by cable cars and are accessible by road, or by funicular that starts from La Massana and reaches the Pal ski resort, located at 1,950 metres above sea level.

A bit further away, is Ordino Arcalís. This Vallnord sector does not have hotels around it, which makes it one of the areas with more natural resources for skiing in Andorra.

Prepare your trip to the snow

If you have never been skiing, you should know that before starting your trip to the snow it is important to check the road condition and the weather forecast for the next few days. In this way, you will avoid more than one unforeseen event and you will know what clothes to wear.

It is also important to know the type of snow that there is in Vallnord and the number of tracks open to the public. All this can be found in our section dedicated to the state of the ski slopes. For new skiers or those who try snowboarding for the first time we recommend avoiding spring and hard snow, since they require a higher ski level.

Last but not least, we recommend you to check the opinions about Vallnord , you can find them at Esquiades.co.uk. In this way, you can see what other skiers think and you will find a large number of useful tips for your next trip to the snow.

I want to learn to ski. What in Vallnord can I start learning?

Vallnord offers many opportunities for beginners. Both in the sectors of Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís, you will find areas for beginners, perfect for taking your first steps in the snow. Now, we will inform you about what does each sector have to offer regarding skiing.

Learning to ski in Pal-Arinsal

The Pal sector is ideal to learn how to ski, thanks to its nice surroundings. The tracks are very wide, which makes the descent more enjoyable. It is also a good option for those who want to stay near the capital of Andorra, Andorra la Vella.

In addition, it is a very comfortable sector if you do not want to take the car, since it is connected to La Massana with a funicular. This transport leaves skiers in the area of the Caubella, at the altitude of 1,950m, where you will find several green slopes to practice with skis or snowboard, as well as an area for beginners provided with conveyor belts.

In order to learn faster, we recommend that you include ski or snowboard lessons in your reservation. The Pal Arinsal school has qualified teachers that will help you to develop technique correctly and that will make it easier to improve. In a few hours you will be able to stand up and slide down some of the green tracks.

And if at the end of the day you are confident enough, you can try some of the blue tracks in Pal, which are a bit more difficult and will help you to continue improving.

Arinsal, on the other hand, also has an area for beginners and conveyor belts, just like Pal. It also has several green and blue tracks so you can progress little by little. Also, if you are going to ski with children, you will find a playground, where the kids can have fun while playing with snow safely.

In this sector you will also find a ski school. The Arinsal school teachers will take you to the appropriate tracks for your level, they will teach you how to slide down the snow and after a few hours of practice, you can go down the low level tracks without an effort.

Whenever possible, we recommend getting to Arinsal with your own vehicle or bus. There is also the possibility of reaching this sector from the tracks in Pal, which are connected to La Massana with a funicular, as we have indicated previously. Yes, keep in mind that with this second option it takes more than 45 minutes to get to Arinsal from La Massana and you have to change the ski lift up to three times.

Learning to ski in Ordino-Arcalís

Finally, we find the Ordino-Arcalís sector. Having no urban nucleus, it is essential to access this area with your own vehicle or by bus. The highest level of Ordino Arcalís is Les Portelles (located at 2,552 metres above sea level). This level can be reached by the La Bassera chairlift, which starts at the foot of the slopes. The height of Les Portelles, and the northeast orientation of this sector makes the snow remain in a very good condition throughout the season.

But the best thing about this sector for beginners is that it has a very long slope that is not very steep called Megaverde. This begins at the highest level of Ordino Arcalís and descends to the foot of the slopes. The slope is 8km long and will make you enjoy everything you have learnt at the beginners area and improve your technique.

Now, it's time for...

In conclusion, any of the two sectors inside Vallnord are good options to start skiing. However, Esquiades.co.uk recommends Ordino Arcalis because there, you have the possibilty to ski down an 8km long green track called 'Megaverde' and Pal-Arinsal due to the nice landscape and wide tracks.

If you finally decide on one of our Vallnord ski offers, remember that you can book the Pal-Arinsal or Ordino-Arcalís skipass separately, or the pass that will give you access to the entire Vallnord domain.
