Would you like to ski in Switzerland? The Les 4 Vallées ski resort is the largest ski area in Switzerland and third in Europe. As you can tell from its name, there’s more than 1 resort:: Verbier, Nendaz, Thyon, Veysonnaz, Bruson and La Tzoumaz.

This natural snow reserve has more than 400 km of ski slopes for all levels. Both skiers and snowboarders can enjoy freeride routes, snow parks and races.

The summit of this resort is at 3300 m altitude, with an exceptional viewpoint, and the lowest ski point at 1250 m. The project for this ski resort was thought in the mid-1970s and the creation of the 4 Vallées came in 1983, with the opening of the Mont-Fort ski cable car.

Where to ski in Les 4 Vallées?

Verbier

The Verbier ski resort , located in the Canton of Valais and in the southwest of Switzerland. Its name has been strongly associated with freeriding as the resort hosted the first edition of the Xtreme Verbier, the most important competition in the world in this specialty. Every year the best riders in the world come to Verbier to ski down the dreaded Bec de Rosses track!

The ski area of this winter destination is located between 1,500 m in the town of Verbier and 3,330 m from Mont Fort; from here you can enjoy one of the most impressive views of the Alps.

It is worth noting the quality of the snow in this resort, as it remains in a powder-snow state for longer than in other ski resorts in Switzerland thanks to the northeast position of many of its slopes.

On the other hand, the après-ski in Verbier is very remarkable, being one of the snow destinations in Switzerland with the great atmosphere, with many bars and entertainment venues, as well as restaurants and shops.

Nendaz

If you search on the internet “the best ski resort in Switzerland”, Nendaz will appear at the top of the list. Other popular results are Verbier, Veysonnaz and Thyon form the mega resort 4 Vallées. It is the ideal destination to experience an unforgettable trip to the Swiss Alps.

Its domain offers infinite possibilities: skiing (including backcountry), snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, adventure trekking, paragliding … For those of you interested in adrenaline fueled activities, Nendaz offers seven descents off marked trails.

But the activities at this resort extend beyond the slopes. There’s also good après ski options such as spas, good food and numerous nightlife options.

You can eat a fondue at 3000 metres!

On the other hand, Nendaz is also a family ski destination. It has the Familien willkommen (families welcome) seal of quality awarded by the Swiss Tourism Union. Therefore, the little ones can have a blast in the kiddies facilities.

Thyon

This ski area is ideal for the whole family, the Thyon ski area has loads of slopes for beginners. If you’re a first-timer, you can try out your skiing skills on “El Petit Vallon” (with its free minigliss carpet) and the Piccolo ski lift.

For those who love speed, La Muraz is a great slope where you can take part in ski or snowboard race. What a great challenge! Did you know that this slope can be used for training? You don’t need to pay extra and you can rent the equipment at the ski school.

For the snowboarders, the Centralpark in Thyon is one of the most recognized snow parks in the Swiss Alps. It is for all levels! From professionals to beginners, everyone will find modules appropriate to their abilities.

Veysonnaz

The Veysonnaz ski resort is located in a small town in the heart of the Valais region, just 170 km from Geneva airport, making it very easy to access by car or by using the Swiss public transport system available from your own airport.

Veysonnaz can boast of being one of the sunniest towns with an average of 300 days a year with sunshine, and having a wonderful view over the Rhone Valley.

It is an excellent destination for off-piste lovers, this being one of its main attractions. In addition, their accommodation is excellent value for money.

Bruson

Bruson is a small 30 km swiss ski resort that is part of the Les 4 Vallées ski resort, the Mont-Fort ski peak is its dominant point at an altitude of 3,330 m. It is connected to the grand domain thanks to the Le Châble - Mayens de-Bruson gondola.

Its sparsely wooded ski area offers stunning views and snow-powder slopes in picturesque surroundings. The top of the Pasay (2166 m) offers an incredible view of Verbier and the surrounding peaks, from the Mont-Blanc massif to the Bernese Alps.

The Tzoumaz

La Tzoumaz (also known as Les Mayens des Riddes) is a ski resort in the Swiss Alps, in the canton of Valais. Its name bears the word "tzoumer", which means to take a break. It is located on the north side of the Verbier ski resort and offers splendid views of the Rhone Valley.

During the winter time you can skate on a natural ice rink, have a swim in a heated pool and try the longest toboggan run in western Switzerland that begins at the top of the resort at 2354 m.
