Grandvalira starts the countdown for the biggest event in its history

Since in October 2015 the International Ski Federation (FIS) chose the sectors of Soldeu and El Tarter de Grandvalira for the celebration of the 2019 Alpine Ski World Cup Finals, the resort has worked tirelessly to receive the event largest sports car in the history of Andorra. The big event will be from March 11 to 17 , when the country will receive the best skiers and skiers in the world, who will fight for the title on the Àliga slopes of El Tarter, where the speed tests will be played, and Avet (Soldeu), scenario of technical disciplines.

During this time, and more intensely since the celebration of the European Cup finals last year, work has been done so that the resort has the latest technology and all the tools to turn Àliga and Avet into Copa del Copa slopes World of reference in Europe . One of the ambitious projects that can guarantee it is the ski platform of Soldeu, which has allowed to extend the arrival of the Avet track, to have more space for the stands, equipment and sponsors, and to improve the logistics of television broadcasting.

The general director of the Organizing Committee, Conrad Blanch, explained during this Friday's presentation that the resort "is ready to offer the world its best face". After finishing the new platform , the technical teams have focused during the last weeks on developing the two paths where the different tests will be held. Blanch has explained that, 30 days after the appointment, the layout of the Avet slope is already ready, while in the one of the Àliga it is necessary to finish conditioning the upper part and it will be in perfect condition for the historic appointment.

Both slopes must pass the so-called snow control on February 28. Apart from this procedure, the FIS, once it had validated the facilities last October, has not pronounced more, giving full confidence to the organizing team of the Finals. The two days before the event, these two competition scenarios will require a total of 18,195 m of safety net.

The presentation has also been attended by the President of the Government of Andorra, Antoni Martí, as honorary president of the Organizing Committee, who stressed that an event of this nature allows "to associate the Andorrana brand with the world sports elite ." Also the mayor of Canillo, José Mandicó, has had some emotional words for all those visionaries who believed in the project and has encouraged all Andorrans to live the finals as a unique show that cannot be missed. For his part, Xavier Cornella, executive advisor and CEO of Crèdit Andorrà, the main sponsor, recalled that "we have been skiing for more than half a century. Our commitment to these Finals is part of a conviction that it comes from very back and time has endorsed that this commitment was successful. "

Marcel Hirscher and Mikaela Shiffrin top the ranking

The competition is expected to bring together about ninety skiers, adding the 25 runners of each discipline , although the exact number will be known once the registrations are closed on February 25.

Currently, the World Cup circuit is stopped because the World Championships are being played in Åre, Sweden, an appointment that is held every two years. To date, the general men's classification is headed by the unbeatable Austrian skier Marcel Hirscher , followed by Frenchman Alexis Pinturault and Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen . In the women's range, the American Mikaela Shiffrin is in first position, the Slovak Petra Vlhová is second and the Swiss Wendy Holdener is in third place.

The 2019 Andorra World Cup Finals will not feature the ski legend Lindsey Vonn , as it has announced that it is retiring after the Åre World Cups, nor with the speed specialist Aksel Lund Svindal, who also hangs the skis east February. The competition will mobilize up to 600 people from the teams of each of the 18 participating countries.

This winter, we will all be champions

Apart from the competitive side, the organization of the World Cup Finals has made an effort to involve the entire Andorran society in the event, carrying the motto "This winter, we will all be champions". Thus, the big event is expected to have an unprecedented impact in Andorra: the goal is to reach 25,000 people during the five days of competition , approximately half in Soldeu and the other half in El Tarter.

Among the broadcast figures are the 60 televisions with broadcasting rights, 35 of which will broadcast the tests live and the 700 million potential viewers who are expected to follow the tests.

Andorra Televisió will enjoy the broadcasting rights and will broadcast the tests live. In addition, a giant screen will also be installed in the center of Andorra la Vella where the tests can be followed to bring the competition closer to the whole society.

Another indicator of the media return that the event will have are the 350 journalists that the organization plans to host during the days of the competition. Currently, more than 200 journalists have already been accredited.
