The ski resort of Val d'Isère, nicknamed "the pearl of the Alps", is one of the queens of the Alps, and therefore of the world. It is one of the top 10 resorts in the world. What's more, Val d'Isère, along with Tignes-Val d'Isère, forms one of the largest and most extensive ski resorts in the world.

Snow conditions in Val d'Isère are normally excellent, both in terms of quality and quantity. The pistes are invariably north-facing, and fifty-four per cent of them are between 2200 and 2900 metres.

Val d'Isère's ski runs are divided into three main interconnected mountains. The famous Bellevarde mountain is home to the Olympic slopes and some of the most famous competition runs. It can be reached by the funicular railway from La Daille or by cable car from Val d'Isère village.

La Solaise can be accessed from the village, with some tricky returns and a series of beautiful, gentler ski runs at higher altitudes that lead to the Pisaillas massif via the Col de l'Iseran. The other access to Pisaillas is from the small village of Le Fornet, a few kilometres from Val d'Isère. This is generally the easiest sector, with gentler ski runs as you climb towards the glacier and excellent snow conditions.

The resort stretches along a valley and has several nuclei. Coming from Bourg St. Maurice, you'll find La Daille. This is a modern building located directly on the slopes. A little further on is the village of Val d'Isère. It has a charming old part and the new buildings in the centre are very beautiful, forming a very harmonious whole of pedestrian streets with shops and a pleasant atmosphere. At the end of the valley is the very rustic Fornet centre, right on the ski slopes.
