Snow returns to ski resorts in the north of the Peninsula

After three weeks of mild weather and almost no precipitation, snow has finally returned to different mountainous areas of the Peninsula, such as the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains, which everyone was missing.

This is good news for the ski resorts, which have faced a significant lack of snow during the Christmas holidays. However, the snowfall has been uneven and if in some cases it can improve the state of the slopes, in others it has barely served to dye the ground white.

The cold has returned to the Aragonese Pyrenees, accompanied by numerous precipitations, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Snowfall has been recorded in large areas of the mountain range with the elevation between 1,400 and 1,800 meters, with a sharp drop in temperatures. In the ski resorts have accumulated up to 15 centimeters of new snow and more precipitation is still expected.

In a statement, the Aramón group reports that these snowfalls could allow opening new slopes and expand the ski area of Formigal and Cerler.

On the other hand, the snow has not reached the stations of Teruel (Javalambre and Valdelinares) which remain closed.

In the Catalan Pyrenees the snow has also arrived at high altitudes from 1,700 meters, with small amounts of about five centimeters in Baqueira and only a whitewash in the easternmost part, as La Molina or Masella.

Three quarters of the same in Andorra and the French side of the Pyrenees, where the thicknesses have reached 9 centimeters in Sorteny or Col del Portalet, respectively.

In the Cantabrian Mountains, the snow leaves the first flakes of 2023 after a Christmas without white mantle and with great losses for the ski resorts of Leon, which are still closed after losing the most important campaign of the season.

With a snow elevation ranging between 1,600 and 2,000 m, according to AEMET, the slopes have dawned with a light white mantle stained with the summits and villages of the Leonese Mountain.

The arrival of this snowfall has barely left between ten and fifteen centimeters thick at the highest altitudes, but is accompanied by lower temperatures that allow the ski resorts of Leon to make snow, in order to raise the opening.

At the moment you can not sing victory far from it, but the first flakes of 2023 leave pictures like this in the Winter and Mountain Station Valgrande Pajares and the Winter and Mountain Station San Isidro.
