The format, although unpublished in Spain, is simple: put on your skis and descend as much as possible for 12 hours straight. It is a resistance ski race, very similar to those that were done just a few years ago at the Aspen resort (Colorado, USA). The competition, which opened last year in Masella, was a success and attracted a large number of skiers from across the peninsula.
HEAD, the ski equipment brand, organized a race of the same format in Sierra Nevada, a test that took place on January 20. Now, Masella is preparing to host the second edition on March 10. Registration is still open.
The mechanics will not vary: at 8 in the morning, all participants must be placed on the starting line. When the signal is given, they will have to run for their skis, put them on and start descending. And so for 12 hours. In fact, last year, some skiers and skiers came to accumulate up to 150 kilometers of consecutive descents. The test is open to 50 teams and 300 people (between skiers and snowboarders). It will be developed as follows:
The race : it's about getting as many descents as possible for 12 hours. Participants will be managed on time according to their interests.
Supplies : participants can stop as many times as they want for their needs. In the village area, boxes or other area. There will be snacks throughout the day.
Plot : the race will have a single track, illuminated during the night hours. The departure will be made without skis from the bottom.
Teams : the teams will be 3 people maximum and you can be on the track doing as many relays as you need.
Results : the absolute winner will be the team that gets the most drops, having passed through the control points. There will be other categories of awards to be defined.
Services : village area with sponsor representation, snack, ski service, pit area, animations throughout the day, final race dinner, raffles and prizes.
