The Baqueira Beret ski resort says goodbye to a great season 2018-2019 in which it has registered very positive figures: with 876,008 skiers which translates into the third best season of the last decade. In total, the resort has been open to the public for 143 days: from Saturday, December 1 until last Easter Monday (April 22), as planned in the initial seasonal calendar.

The beginning of this winter was marked by a December Bridge with 20,000 skiers from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 and a substantial improvement of the conditions throughout that week, which allowed extending the ski area to offer 40 km of skiable. On Christmas holidays, the Baqueira Beret ski and snowboard resort had 85 km of open slopes and lots of family, sports and aprèsski activities, from DJs on slopes to the massive torch descent on New Year's Eve.

After an unusually dry November and December, the joy of the snowfall came in January, ensuring the rest of the season with regard to the snow and the total opening of the season. February was atypical in terms of meteorology as it has been one of the sunniest to remember which resulted in an important influx of skiers and snowboarders with 100% of the season open in the strongest month of the season.

With regard to Holy Week, from April 13 to 22, the Baqueira Beret resort has received 48,000 skiers, who have been able to enjoy 112 km of open slopes and snow levels between 85 and 165 cm of snow and access to the four sectors of the Baqueira resort, Beret (except TS Dossau and TSD Blanhiblar), Bonaigua and Baciver.

The season, in data

The 2018-2019 season has accounted for a total of 33 days of snowfall, with thicknesses of 95 cm on average and the accumulated meters this winter have been 5.44 m. (sum of snowfall). The minimum temperature of the recorded season was -11.7 ° C.

The popular day is still those of the Baqueira area that accumulates 51% of the skiers of the resort, followed by Beret with 27.1% of users and Bonaigua with 19.1% of skiers. Finally, the area still to be discovered for many regulars in the Val d'Aran is that of Baciver. It is a new area, the smallest of the resort and which has two ski lifts, which has been created this season, which has allowed to place the highest elevation of the resort at 2,610 m, and which has joined at 3 Historical With this incorporation, the resort offered this season five more red slopes reaching 165 km of paths (160 km marked and 5 km of itineraries).

The 36 ski lifts of the resort have transported a whopping 10,422,419 skiers and the average slope for each of them has been 4,298 m. As for the average number of holidays in ski lifts, it has been 11.68 per skier.

Spectacular FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup

Last March Baqueira Beret put on the snowboard again and hosted the Snowboard cross FIS World Cup on the Blanhiblar de Beret slope for the second time (the first was in 2016). The best international and national snowboarders of the RFEDI participated in the competition, such as Regino Hernández, Olympic bronze in PyeongChang'18, and Lucas Eguibar, world silver in Sierra Nevada'17.

The event had a high atmosphere: Some 3,000 people passed through the area of the event in Beret to encourage athletes during the final. In the Blanhiblar area they enjoyed the show with jumps in which they flew up to 20 meters while tasting the traditional products of the Val d'Aran in the Village, such as the well-known Aranese Pot. The test was televised internationally.

Leisure, competitions and fun in the snow

Baqueira Beret continues to intensify its agenda of events this season adding 166 musical performances and more than 60 sporting events. The musical performances have been distributed by the different bars with terrace of the resort, highlighting the DJ sessions in Baqueira Bar 1500 and in Moët Winter Lounge, and in events such as San Miguel or Night Era.

As for sports competitions, cross-country skiing has been the protagonist with the Marxa Beret, held in the Pla de Beret in the month of February, an appointment that remains the queen of the tests at the resort by adding 900fondistas this winter, who traveled the 10, 21 and 42 km of their different routes. One more year, the victory in the long distance was for the Catalan Sadurní Betriu and the Aranese Marta Cester. Other prominent popular events have been the fifth edition of the BBB Ski Race Experience, which coincided with World Snow Day, organized in January, in which registrants were able to discover every corner of the resort through the original test, mixing Selfies competitions.

In February the second phase of the Movistar Spanish Cup of snowboard cross (SBX) and skicross (SX) was held, which had more than 130 registered. The competition, which was played in the area of Snowpark Era Marmòta, had a spectacular route of about 840 meters and a slope of about 100 meters, with a width of 8 meters, 7 pear trees with 14 dubbies and 4 jumps. The popular Audi SalomonQuestChallenge also passed through the resort in its fifth edition in December with more than 800 participants.

On March 9 and 10, the resort was the scene of the 12th edition of the Jesús Serra Foundation Trophy, a competition that awarded scholarships to the best skiers and raffled off many gifts among all the participants, and that same weekend, Baqueira Beret hosted the Spanish Mushing Snow Championship, an edition that featured 155 registered mushers. The month of March ended with the first competition in Spain of the 'Banked Slalom Tour' of the World Snowboard Federation (WSF), organized by Landing Snowboard.

At the end of March the Spanish Alpine ski Championships organized by the RFEDI were played with the help of local clubs. The Catalan team of the federation Núria Pau (LMCE-FCEH) was the absolute protagonist in the female range by imposing herself in the three modalities in liza at Beret Stadium: super-G, giant and slalom. Regarding men, the winner of the super-G was the Navarre AdurEtxezarreta (CEN-FNDI), the giant went to the Basque Aingery Garay (LVERDE-FVDI / NKEF) and the Aranese skier Alex Puente (CAEI-FCEH) prevailed in slalom ). All three are part of the RFEDI teams.

One more season, the Era Marmòtade Beret snowpark has become the meeting point for ski and snowboard freestylers, where there have been competitions open to both sports such as the Marmòta Era ClosingPartyde end of season: a freestyle competition, where the Participants were able to demonstrate their best jumps, tricks and steps through modules.

As for activities offered throughout the season, the already consolidated Audi SkiKronos located in Baqueira has had great success. This stadium, next to the 2200 cafeteria, allows you to download an easy giant path that is recorded on video and takes time. The skier, through his pass, access this data through the Baqueira website and can share it on social networks. Also highlight the great acceptance of the Funpark in Beret for fun on skis and snowboards for the whole family.
