The Aletsch Arena welcomes families with a refreshing breeze of aromatic alpine air. The characteristic Valais country houses and the idyllic chalets and hotels give the villages in the valley and the alpine farms closed to cars a very special characteristic charm.

The Aletsch Glacier has a length of 20 km, an average width of 1800 m and an area of about 78.5 km² that houses an impressive volume of 11,000 million tons of ice. Its ice masses descend from the northern slopes of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains in the direction of the valley, in the Valais, until their waters flow into the Rhone through the untamed Massa gorge. In 2001, the Swiss Alps Jungfrau – Aletsch region was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a landscape of extraordinary beauty.

Halfway between the valley and the sky are the sunny terraces of Fiescheralp, Bettmeralp and Riederalp . Six aerial funiculars transport tourists from the Rhone Valley to the holiday resorts and excursion paradise of the Aletsch region at an altitude of around 2000 m . Here you can continue to the most beautiful panoramic mountains, such as the 2,927 m high Mount Eggishorn which offers a view of the Aletsch and Fiescher glaciers.

WINTER

The vast Aletsch ski area (Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp) has 104 km of slopes , located up to 2,869 m high, and is served by a series of mountain railways and ski lifts. The offer of its winter centres includes extensive Nordic ski slopes and routes for winter hiking and snowshoeing.. And to deliciously culminate a day full of sport, nothing better than an exquisite raclette or a fondue accompanied by a glass of white Valais wine.

SUMMER

Summer holidays in the Aletsch region are synonymous with holidays in unspoiled nature, in the middle of an attractive hiking area. In the middle of the alpine landscape is the Villa Cassel, an information centre of the nature protection organization "Pro Natura". Nature lovers will find here information about the natural area and offers of courses and excursions. A beautiful high altitude path leads from the Riederalp to the Villa Cassel and later to the glacier tongue, through the Aletsch forest.

FAMILIES

The Aletsch Arena welcomes families with a refreshing breeze of aromatic alpine air. The characteristic Valais country houses and the idyllic chalets and hotels give the villages in the valley and the alpine farms closed to cars a very special characteristic charm. Gletschi, the glacier flea, once again attracts the attention of young and old.

For an unforgettable winter, there are some things you really must try in the Aletsch Arena:

- At the moonlight dinner with torchlight descent, first enjoy a fine fondue and then ski back to Bettmeralp in the light of your own torch.
- Take a winter hike to marvel at the Aletsch Glacier in its winter splendour.
- Try out the sledge run from Moosfluh to Riederalp.
- Learn about traditional crafts while making wood shingles.
- Enjoy the soothing tranquillity of the snow-covered winter landscape off the beaten track on a snowshoe tour.
