The discrepancies within the Government of Aragon are increasing regarding the project to connect the ski resorts of Astún and Formigal by means of a cable car through Canal Roya . The General Directorate of Territorial Planning assures that it will create a landscape impact and that, therefore, some affectations must be corrected.
This Department is directed by José Manuel Salvador Minguillón of the CHA, one of the two government partners who, together with Podemos, reject the connection project between these two ski resorts. The report calls for increased measures to correct this impact, in addition to implementing an Environmental Surveillance Plan throughout the life of the cable car. On the other hand, he considers that
"It is not of general interest for Aragon since, in addition to the severe impact it would have on the landscape, it cannot be considered balanced from a territorial point of view and is questionable in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals".
However, from the Diputación de Huesca the general interest of the project is justified in that the union of both stations can create a domain according to the current demand of skiers and that can allow attracting foreign customers .
Two cable cars will allow you to get from Candanchú to Formigal
Meanwhile, the Government of Aragon has asked for speed in the project to connect the Astún and Candanchú stations so as not to lose funding from the European Funds . To meet Next Generation requirements, the project must be 75% ready by 2024.
The project seems to be somewhat delayed , since the Atragón General Interest Plan (PIGA) is not yet ready, the processing of which depends on the public company Turismo de Aragón. And at this point, only one work team has been set up, which also includes staff from the General Directorate of Tourism with the support of legal services.
Curiously, the link between Astún and Formigal is more advanced in this regard, since the PIGA was drafted by Aramón before the agreement was signed.
There are 21 months to go until the end of the term of the Astún-Candanchú cable car, and so far nothing has moved on the ground, which worries the general director of Tourism, Gloria Pérez.
The new cable car between Astún and Candanchú will create a ski areaof 100 kilometers connected
and be the first to receive great ski deals!
