The ski and mountain resort of Sierra Nevada in Granada will open the slopes in the Veleta area from this Sunday, December 18 on, thus opening the iconic black Visera slope. The resort already opened this Saturday the Veleta chairlift, which allowed to add more than 10 skiable kilometres to the available domain.
To put the Veleta area into service, the maintenance team had to unblock and free the Zayas chairlift cable from ice, which was very affected by the last wind, water and snow storms, and which gives access to the red Cordón and Panorámica slopes, two of the preferred routes for expert skiers.
With the recent openings of ski lifts, the skiable surface will exceed 20 kilometres as of this Sunday.
La Visera has been included in the snow report for this Sunday, as well as the Emilio Reyes chairlift, which will also give access to the head of the Loma de Dílar and Cecilio slopes. Between the two slopes will be installed early next week a provisional snowpark, until the arrival of new snowfall will allow the Sulayr snowpark service to be resumed.
Thus,
from this Sunday, the planned skiable area of Sierra Nevada exceeds 20 kilometers, and is working to increase the number of slopes available with the upcoming access into operation of the Stadium chairlift. The opening during this weekend of the three lifts, Veleta, Zayas and Emilio Reyes, takes place just 3 days after the
heavy downpour of water that forced the closure of the resort last Wednesday. The works of water drainage and run-off channelling, accompanied by intermittent snowfalls and the generation of snow produced, allowing the recovery of the slopes before the storm, and even increase the skiable offer.
