During this weekend the cold wave has made a dent in many seasons and has left abundant snowfall, and if in these next 24 hours the cold continues the snow can be maintained. It is also expected that new rainfall will arrive on Wednesday . In the ski resort Masella , snow production has already started.
Above the highest levels (1,900 m), 15 to 40 cm of snow has been recorded, the thickness estimated for most of the Pyrenees ski resorts. These first snows will allow the stations to have a first base very early so that they can increase the thickness in the next few hours . As we have explained a few lines above, Masella has already launched the snow cannons and could be a first sign that a possible opening is being assessed as soon as possible .
The ski resort has announced on its social networks that they will effectively open on November 1 whenever conditions permit . Recall that last year he did it on November 10 and in 2008 on November 8!
Also, sources close to the station have suggested that this possibility is not ruled out nor is 100% done since there are 3 days left until November 1 and snow conditions are not “guarantee ” enough to make the opening possible.
Weather forecasts are somewhat uncertain and it is advisable to announce possible decisions with caution; Monday temperatures will remain cold and below 0 degrees in the high levels of the Pyrenees , for Tuesday and Wednesday new rainfall is expected although the level will not be low.
Finally, in case of opening on November 1, it would be the earliest opening of its history , not only of the history of Masella, but of all the Pyrenees.
After five years of complete renovation of its snowmaking machinery for another with current and modern technology, Sierra Nevada now has the most efficient system available on the market, which allows it to produce the same snow as last year, but with 40% less power.
