Ferrocarrils (FGC) becomes a great engine to discover the Catalan mountain this summer

The tourist offer for this summer of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) invites citizens to rediscover the territory with a series of activities and offer of tourist trains to enjoy the country's natural and cultural heritage.

After a few months closed, mountain resorts and tourist trains reopen doors under the motto "Breathe Nature" , a concept that now more than ever takes center stage in all the experiences that can be enjoyed in the natural environment. True to its commitment to the territory, FGC has programmed all openings and activities together with local and regional authorities, to provide a global offer and help the recovery of the territory's economy.

Thus, this year Ferrocarrils puts all its mountain tourism assets and tourist trains in favor of the recovery of outdoor leisure spaces and the concept of taking air in the middle of nature after this stage of confinement by the coronavirus. Now that little by little the citizens are recovering their habits, FGC is also recovering normality in the resorts and farms it manages.

Progressive opening and following sanitary protocols

Starting June 12, they will gradually open tourist resorts and trains. This day will be done by the Montsec Astronomical Park , which for the first year joined the FGC tourism offer after the company took over the management at the beginning of the year. Next, Vall de Núria will open its doors on June 19; next, La Molina and the Tren del Ciment , on June 20; the Rack railway and Funiculars of Montserrat , on June 24; the Tren dels Llacs will be put into service from July 4; and in Vallter 2000 activities will resume from July 18.

As for the Gelida Funicular, from June 20 it will provide tourist service every weekend and holidays and designated. For its part, the Espot, Port Ainé and Boí Taüll resorts will not exploit their mountain facilities in summer but they are magnificent high-mountain destinations where all kinds of excursions and hiking routes can be made and are the gateway to the National Park of Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici and the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, as well as a unique destination for adventure sports and white water.

The opening of mountain resorts and tourist trains will be done following sanitary protocols . The use of a mask will be mandatory in trains, resorts, lobbies and common areas and in all those places where a safety distance cannot be maintained, as established in all the activities carried out throughout the country. The cleaning measures will also be the usual ones, with the application of disinfecting and virucidal products in all spaces where there are movements of people and hydroalcoholic gel will be made available to visitors for hand cleaning.

All payment and customer service areas will be equipped with a screen / protective screen. And all the resorts and transports will have informative signage on the regulations to follow in each case.

As part of the strategy to digitize business processes in mountain resorts, an online system for the advance booking of tickets is being developed with the aim of marketing the bulk of the supply of available people through this channel. This will allow, in situations like the current one, to do an automated gauging control in the facilities . The system will initially be put into operation in the coming weeks at the facilities of the La Molina Cable Car and the Rack Trains of Vall de Núria and Montserrat.

This year, FGC offers different innovations in the hill resorts. The start-up of the section of the Cadí-Moixeró Cable Car to the Niu del Águila stands out for the first time . At the top of La Tosa, at 2,537 meters, a panoramic observation point has been installed with magnificent views of Cerdanya, Berguedà and Ripollès.

In Vall de Núria is where the other important package of novelties is concentrated. Here a new audio-guide service is launched to discover the valley via mobile phone. It consists of an app that offers a complete experience, since it can be used both during the journey with the Rack and during the stay in the valley: at the moment when the visitor passes through a prominent point in the environment of the active audio-guide explaining the details. This support is available in Catalan, Spanish, English and French.

In addition, this will be the first summer that the new Coma del Clot Cable Car can be accessed , a completely renovated facility that has doubled its capacity. In Vall de Núria the new historic MGB cars and the H12 Locomotive are also presented, which will make the ascent from Ribes de Freser to Núria or from Queralbs to Núria, offering information with both the conventional guide and the new app. And access to the platforms of the Tren Cre rack railway resorts will be done with automatic validators and access with the mobile e-ticket.
