The Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI) attended the autumn meetings of the International Ski Federation (FIS), which took place from September 25 to 29 in Zurich, and was attended by about 350 delegates from all countries.
These meetings are common on the dates before the start of the winter season: they are used to decide key aspects such as scheduling competitions, discussing proposals from the FIS Technical Committees to update or modify competition regulations and regulations, manage television rights, among other things.
Several members and collaborators of the RFEDI participated in the different meetings of the committees and subcommittees: technical, legal, child promotion, medical, competition regulations and technical delegates of the different FIS sports.
During the last meetings in Zurich, the Spanish representatives were present in practically all the sessions, in which basic points of the different sports were defined.
During the meetings of the snowboard cross committees (SBX), the construction of the circuits was discussed and the need for safer competitions for athletes was emphasized, as well as to establish general criteria for the construction of the SBX circuits. In turn, the SBX calendar for the 2018-2019 season was approved and the SBX calendar for the 2019-2020 season was presented.
Alpine technical delegates meetings worked on the definition of the alpine update courses for the next season and on the confirmation of dates and venues for the updating courses of the different countries. The course in Spain and Andorra will take place on November 10 and 11 in Madrid, at the AC Hotel headquarters of Rfredi-Spainsnow. The assignment of FIS technical delegates on the international calendar and, in the case of Spain, the exchange of events with technical delegates from Andorra, France, Italy and Switzerland were also discussed.
In relation to cross-country skiing, the World Cup calendar for the next 4 years was discussed; the introduction of new career formats in the future for the Junior-U23 category and the creation of a FIS training campus for the youngest was discussed.
As for the speed ski committee, issues such as the election of Ricardo Adarraga (fastest Spanish skier and champion of Spain 2018 of speed skiing) were decided, as secretary of the committee and head of the technology area; approval of the final calendar of FIS competitions for the 2018-2019 season; as well as the FIS Speedski regulations.
In addition, the FIS congress was the perfect scenario to close collaboration agreements between the different federations that participated in the event. In fact, the RFEDI took advantage of the situation to renew, one more season, the collaboration agreement that signed the 2016-2017 season with France and Andorra.
Thanks to this initiative, the aforementioned National Federations agree, once again, to promote (beyond the borders) the practice of skiing and its assimilated activities in all its modalities. In turn, the participation of athletes affiliated with these federations to competitions registered in their respective calendars is made possible. In this way, a “space” for the exchange of experiences and information at a global level is created, sharing the means and techniques of knowledge.
Regarding the commitments acquired, these national federations will encourage the participation of their respective licensed athletes in the competitions of the rest of the federations, respecting their national regulations.
With this common commitment, a further step is taken in the continuity of a large cross-border sports project that represents an example of collaboration in the international area.
